Sertraline for 8 weeks - losing hope

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am approaching 8 weeks on sertraline for anxiety and depression (6 weeks at 50mg then two weeks up to 100mg)I had to cross taper to come off mirtazapine which had stopped working but I am still on 15mg to help with sleep. I have had the odd couple of good days but on the whole it has been hell, heightened anxiety which is worse in the mornings, low mood, not wanting to face the day. Sometimes i am so agitated it is unbearable. I suppose a just want to feel some hope from anyone in a similar situation. My negative thoughts, worries and general feeling of dread seem to be taking over. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

    hi there,

I can only share my experience on sertraline since I didn't have to taper off at the same time with the other meds. I have been on them for 5 months now and for the first 3 months it was a rollercoaster of up and down low moods, increased anxiety, intrusivethoughts. Now what I was never told and maybe you weren't either is that when you increase the dose the weeks start over so for me it's 5 months on the meds but only 3 months on the dose I take which is 150mg. So your 2 wks on 100mg was probably alot of the crappy side effects again since you were adjusting to a new dose. It is normal to feel worse before better, I can definitely say that is what happened for me.

if you Google sertraline reviews there are hundreds of really positive stories that started out alot like yours, it really helped me to read them and know that for almost everyone that things only got better xx
