Sertraline for life?

Hi I ve been on Sertaline for over 2 years now. I've always always been against taking Meds. If I look back at my life I can see I've been suffering anxiety and depression since I was 16. I'm now 38. I've fought it in every way imaginable.....exercise positive affirmations herbal remedies hypnosis thousands of pounds on therapy.......I've always had low mood irritability intrusive thoughts ibs social anxiety

etc.....when I got settled on a dose of Sertaline it all disappeared and I felt better than ever. I guess I'm wondering if all of my problems emanated from a chemical imbalance......so do I just take this stuff for ever?

If we knew someone with Type 1 diabetes would we be against them taking their insulin? No.

So why are we (I say we because I go through the same thought process as you) so hard on ourselves over taking Sertraline?

I think it's because we believe we should be able to 'conquer it' (depression and anxiety) somehow.

I've come to the conclusion that sometimes we just can't beat biology.

Sure, we can help ourselves by doing all the things you'be mentioned and trying to keep stress to a minimum but life inevitably gets in the way and if there's a tendency which is triggered, we can become unwell.

Sertraline has saved me in more than one occasion. If it's changed your life for the better too, it's a no brainer.

I think we worry too much about what we think other people might think or say but at the end of the day, we are the experts on ourselves so we should do what suits us best.

I won I've only been on it for 3 months, but feel better. I'm also taking 60mg of cymbalta, but my dr says we will ween off that. My progress has been slow -at my standards- but wonder the same. I used to have highs and lows and was irritable. Here's to hoping I continue  to move forward on the 100mg dose.
