Sertraline giving negative effects at the begining

Hi, I'm a 48 old man, suffering from depression, anxiety and social phobia since 19 years, lately I
was given Sertraline 50mg/day for 11 days only which caused increased anxiety and phobia and dramatic increase in feeling guilty, with the only advantage of having a sharp sexual appetite which I have lost many years before, what made my doctor to stop it. Lately I've talked to someone who had
the same experience, but he claims that these negative effects will vanish after 2 to 3 weeks and the sexual appetite will remain for good. Any body had similar experience? I can let my doctor
give me Sertraline again, but I'll have to go through hell for 2-3 weeks maybe more with the hope
that the effect will become positive, can anybody please confirm this info ?
Thank you.

I personally think it was worth going through that for how good I feel now. It seems like no time at all and the best way I found to get through it is forcing yourself to be busy and get out the house to sit with an understanding friend/family member.
Not sure about the sex situation, it hindered me in the first few weeks but I've been totally fine since. Good luck!

I noticed an increase in my sexual appetite the morning after I took my first one. Its been basically non-existent for about a year and a half now but luckily my boyfriend has stuck through it with me. So it's nice to have it back.
I've been experiencing queasiness more than any of the other symptoms at the moment. But weather that's because I'm worrying about taking them of if they're the tablet themselves I don't know. Maybe a bit of both?
I also begun to get a really bad headache yesterday eve, but again that could be a cross between the tablet and not eating due to decreased appetite.
I hope you work out with your doctor what's the best to do.

In october last year I was put on 50mg/day of sertraline. I became very disorientated, anxious and didn't want to leave the house at all. Because of this I stopped taking it and soon returned to my usual anxious state of mind.
After speaking with my psychiatrist in January of this year I decided to go back on to Sertraline but this time using only 25mg/day - to do this I had to snap the 50mg pill in half, which is easy to do. But by doing this I found I could better cope with the drug without any massive side-effects. From here I had a safe platform for building the dose every week or two by 25mg (and later 50mg) increments without causing any of those initial nasty side-effects.
For me this drug is now working, and working better than I'd hoped for it - so far, at least.
This has been my personal experience of Sertraline. Should you adopt the same strategy the outcome might be different. But the overall details of your case sound quite similar to mine - hence this report. Good luck fellow sufferer, whatever you choose!
