sertraline good and bad points

I have been hearing alot of people asking alot of things about sertraline. I have had experiences with the drug. Im not an expert by any means. But if anyone wants to know anything about sertraline i will be happy to try and help you.

I personally think if you can deal with the side affects then it is great and works really well. But i also think that people should not become totally dependant on sertraline. It is there to get you out of that dark place and give you enough stability to say to yourself im now ready to overcome my anxiety issues. This worked great for me. Side affects were rough sometimes but its a means to an end. I experienced insomnia, headaches, upset tummy, numbness in my limbs, this lasted for around 5 days. Anyway hope this helps. Just rrply to this post if you need to ask anything

I am day 18 now of 50mg sertraline, the first 10 days I had loss off appetite, fatigue, heightened anxiety, dodgy tummy, dry mouth and dry heaving, the last few days I have   Seen light at the end of the tunnel, ie less anxious, not thinking negatively 24/7, appetite bk, just generally feeling better. If u r just starting then bare with it as it does take time to work, I would say I am 50% better but I am def gonna stick with it x take care everyone and remember think positive thoughts always x

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for sharing your experience here. I have recovered from severe bouts of clinical depression in the past few years with the aid of Citalopram and/or Mirtazapine. I've come off both slowly when I've felt better. However, my psychiatrist is now trying to find something I can be on longterm as I seem to be prone to recurrent depression (and very severe depression i.e. suicidal). Venlafaxine didn't work for me due to the intolerable side-effects (in my experience). I'm not suffering too bad with the Sert side-effects although I'm only 9 days in on 50mg. I'm feeling a lot more positive :-)

Can I ask how long you were taking Sert?

Thanks for your help & advice. Best wishes,

    Digsby
