Sertraline Headaches
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi. started on 25mg sertraline for 10 days with very few side effects. Have been on 50mg for 4 weeks. second week palpitations and week 3 and 4 really bad migraine type headaches. Head feels tender to touch, pulsating feeling and nausea. Feel tempted to reduce or give up. Did anyone else have this and when did it go? Have some days when headache is not so bad and the next day its back.

Hi MB. l can relate to this. Have been on slightly longer than you. It's hard going. Side effects seem to change and l am going through a time when paracetamol are needed. Nausea seems to have settled but tiredness and heavy head in evidence. Anxiety not quite so bad. Am due to speak to my doctor tomorrow. This forum is good and people say to stick with it, it takes time.

Hi. Thanks your your reply. I am new to the forum and its good to talk to people who are going through something similar. How did you get on with the doctor?

Doctor seemed to think that l am doing ok. She isn't expecting any quick fix and said to keep going on 50 mg and she will speak again in 4 weeks. l am finding the forum good, do struggle with it a bit as l'm not totally 'tech savey'. Advice seems to generally be patient and try and ride the bad days. Some days are hard, l try and think that it is another day nearer to recovery. Stay positive and post how you are getting on.

Yes, I have had similar feelings. I started with the 25 mg for anxiety and heart palpitations not related to heart problems. After 2 weeks on the 25 mg, I felt much better. My doctor increased me to 50 mg. For the first few days, all was okay. Then the bad headaches, more anxiety, heart palpitations etc. So I backed off to the 25 mg again. I stayed on the 25 mg for several weeks, then decided to try to increase slowly. I am currently taking 37 mg by cutting one of the 25's in half. Taking 1 and 1/2. So far that has been working okay. I do feel in the increase, but not bad like going from 25 to 50. So I will give the 37 mg a while so I can adjust slowly. Then I'll try to increase to the 50. My doctor said the 50 mg is really the adult dose. Maybe try increasing slowly and see how your body does with 37 mg. for a while.

Yes! I almost always feel nausea getting back on this med and I get very terrible headaches getting on as well as getting off this med, and also if I drink alcohol. Usually, the headaches go away by itself if you get some sleep. But if you really can't, take a Tylenol and it should help. And I've had tons of other side effects, like diarrhea, loose stool, locked jaws, heart palpitations, let shaking, etc. Please don't give so soon, I promise you most side effects will give up.
Prayers coming your way. Take care.

I don't remember exactly, but at least around the 4-6 month mark, if I recall. You have to remember that I first started sertraline when I was in my twenties and I am not in my forties. So that was a long time ago. Most side effects go away or gets reduced and you learn ways to cope with it. Like I quit alcohol. And I quite caffeine because it's also pretty bad with this med and my anxiety. It's a stimulant and that's not good for those who's anxious.
