Sertraline Increase

Really need some advice.

Was taking 50mg sertraline for 10 days before I increased to 100mg 5 days ago.

On the 50mg I was having a few good days and my appetite was coming back.

Since increasing to 100mg I've gone completely downhill. Twitching muscles, foggy head, heightened anxiety and overwhelming thoughts.

This is completely unbearable and I just don't know what to do with myself.

I'm not sure if I should go back down to 50mg and see how I get on with that. Has anybody had any experience of this happening to them?

Feeling worse than ever and very desperate.

    Hi Clare,

    I've had a similar experience.

Started 10 weeks ago on sertraline first took 25mg for 3 weeks then 50 mg for 3 weeks and started having a few positive days. Saw Dr just before Christmas who increased dose to 100 mg, been on this for 4 weeks now and have felt worse not better.

Saw Dr again this week who advised Sertraline isn't working and wants to switch me to Trazadone.

I've read reviews online and some people say it can take up to 12 weeks to feel benefits and I'm also thinking that the increase to 100 mg has increased side effects which could be why I have felt worse.

    I am just so confused.

Hi Clare, sorry your still not feeling great. I know people have said that when you up your dose that you can get side effects upto 2weeks again so maybe it's that and might just have to get through it or the dose could be too high for you in which case would try 75mg or possibly back down to 50mg. I'm on sertaline now and have had some terrible side effects and that's been on 50mg but I was on it a few years ago and it really helped me, my dose was 100mg but I did go upto 150mg and it was too much for me, I had dizziness foggy head etc so went back down to 100mg which is where I stayed. Maybe make a appointment to see your dr next week and see what they say and if they could give you anything to help? Xx

Yes, this is normal and is to be expected. Again, your side effects will increase and again it will get bad for next 2-4 weeks before it gets better.

At times you may have to also increase your benzo to combat the increased side effects with increased dose of z. Stay strong, you're getting closer every day to returning to old self.
