Sertraline increase after slipping back

Hi, I have suffered with Anxiety and Depression most of my adult life. After a traumatic event I sank so low that I was prescribed Sertraline 50mg. After a few weeks I began to feel better and looking at the world in a more positive light. 2 and a half months on and I have slipped back into a depreressive and anxious state again. I am waking up overwhelmingly anxious with server butterflies and adrenaline. On top of this I feel so down I want to cry constantly. Yesterday I was increased on my Sertraline dose to 100mg. Does anyone know if I will get the side effects back from the increase ? And if anyone knows why it is possible to sink so far back into depression whilst taking meds ? Thank you for taking the time to read this.
