SERTRALINE - INCREASED DOSAGE FROM 50MG TO 100MG

This is the first time I have posted anything on a discussion forum, but am hoping for some help! I started on Sertraline in February, 50mg initially... the side effects were quite horrific at the start, tiredness, anxiety and low mood being obvious. The side effects subsided and I started to feel like myself again - happy, energetic and my irrational thoughts significantly reduced. However, the doctor told me to increase my dosage to 100mg a couple of weeks ago and since then I am feeling very low, have very negative irrational thoughts towards my partner and am feeling very disconnected again. I will start to feel happy and then my mind will sense this and bring me back down. It is so tiring and I feel like a terrible person. Has anyone had anything similar? I would love to know for some kind of reassurance that it will get better.

Thank you

I am a 24yo male and have was first on 50mg for around 2 1/2 halfs and now 100mg for around the same and I had the same problems as you but they will subside you just have to fight through it, I know it's hard, I had increased anxiety, sleeplessness, weird dreams lol, sweats, palpitations etc but to be honest they never really gave me any extra symptoms they just made the ones I already had a little worse. And I had a couple big panic attacks first few weeks of taking them where I thought i was gonna die lol not fun, any questions give me a message cheers

    Hi Ashlee,

Yes I had all this too, I've been on 100mg for about seven months, and it took about seven or eight weeks after the increase from 50mg to feel better, so hang in there, it will get better.

Ashlee - It's quite normal since you increased the dosage. I increasedd my dosage from 25 to 50 to 75, back down to 50 and then umped to 100 and now 150. I had some good days but also some very bad days. The great news is that my extreme morning anxiety has been reduced considerably. I used to freak out every morning. It was unbearable. Now it's moderate anxiety and I'm mostly experiencing some depression, agitation and some anxiety. It still isn't pleasant but much better than it used to be. I've only been on 150 for 7 days and the doctor told me that it takes 2 to 4 weeks. many others on the forum will tell you it could even take up to 8 weeks to get the full benefits.

Try to hang in there and stay away from benzos if you can. If you have to take them, don't take them more than once or twice per week. Benzos wil actually make anxiety worse once you build a tolerance to them if taken daily.

Yes I've had similar experiences, but what I'm done is taking l-theanine to subside my side effects.
