Sertraline - increasing the dose

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, and to antidepressants.

After several years of on-off depression and anxiety I finally decided to try medication.

I started on 50mg Sertraline about 8 weeks ago. After a few days of horrible physical side effects I started to feel great. But in the last week I have started to feel not-so-great again. This could be due to a week away where I consumed a fair bit of alcohol and cannabis (after being very sensible since starting the Sertraline).

I'm thinking of asking my doctor to up the dose to 100mg.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced Sertraline "wearing off" after a few months, or being affected by alcohol?

Cheers x

    Hi Colerne

    I'm on 50mg for anxiety/depression,been so for 13 or 14 weeks...I've lost count!

I have had quite a few heavy weekends drinking within that period,(although I was careful & weary to begin with). It does maybe affect my mood for a day or 2 afterwards but if I'm honest not anymore than it did when I was 'normal' last summer.

I did have a dip around week 9/10 where i considered going to see about upping the dose but I didn't bother & stuck with it...I honestly feel great now so maybe give it till the end of the week & see how you feel?

I've been on them since November and been wary of alcohol too. I have had a few but makes me a bit light headed altho that could be me worrying or the fact I am a complete lightweight now! Have u both been ok while drinking that night and no different to usual?

      Hi Natalie.

Funny you say that,I read before that it can make you feel drunk quicker so that kind of stuck in my mind & I found I did get drunk quicker drinking less than i used to be able to handle...but the last couple of times I havent thought anything of it & have been fine..try and sneak a water in while no ones looking smile

    Thanks everyone for the responses.

I'm going to give it a few more days to see how I feel. The alcohol didn't seem to increase the side-effects of the Sertraline at all, at the time. That's why I got a bit more relaxed about drinking lots. Prob a good idea to lay off the booze for a while and see how it goes x
