Sertraline made things worse and after a momth off of it theyre still bad

Hello everyone

I dont know if i can cope anymore. I went on sertraline for anxiety very quickly to a high dose 150ml in January this year and had a very bad reaction, a huge increase in depression, anxiety, depersonalisation, akathisia etc..The depression was much worse then anything i have ever experienced. I was on them for four months (because my dr said i should settle in and only cone off once i feel better (!)) before I tapered down my self and now i still feel very bad. No akathisia but its been a month since my last dose and im still very depressed, much worse then before i went on sertraline (though not as bad as the eorst point on sertraline). I just have this constant feeling of deep dread and the inability to concentrate or feel anything remotely happy/good.

Im terrified the sertraline has damaged my brain and now, even though im off it i will always feel like this. Help.

Everyone’s body reacts different to SSRIs, there are many options out there. I was on celexa for 12 years and it stopped working out of the blue. Switched over to Zoloft I’m on Month 4.  Are brain chemicals are always changing. Hope you feel better

Hows your diet? Are you exercising?

These factors are As important or more important than the medications for depression. Look into taking a bunch of vitamins if your diet is poor.

B-complex and vitamin d and magnesium are all important. Fish oil too.

I fail to understand why some doctors think it's ok to put someone on a high dose of sertraline so quickly. I feel for you. I would see a different doctor. This med should be started low at 25mg then 50 ..75..100..etc over a period of time. This med is not for everyone but it has worked for me. I really feel for you because my side effects were horrid even with the gradual increases. Please go and see a different doctor. I wish you all the best. Please keep posting on here.

      Thank you Hoopz

You always go the extra mile & try to assist all of us. Your positivity & experiences really help.

I too am struggling with the dilemma on when/how to increase.

      I was on 25mg for a week,& now 50mg for 6 weeks. I take it at 9am.

I had the worst & most horrible side effects esp fatigue. I stayed in bed for almost 18hours a day.

All side effects have subsided except some fatigue, “vivid dreams” which interrupts sleep & some ringing in my ears.

I feel better/ calmer  but still not myself .Im still wanting to hibernate even though I do much more than I did last month.

The Dr said that if  I “donot” feel better after 6 weeks , I should increase to 25mg.

I’m so terrified of the side effects again.

But I need to take the plunge.

I think I’m going to need more than 75mg.

Any suggestions on how to increase .

I understand that will be purely from your experience & I find this more valuable than some medical advice.

      Happy unicorning .

Ha! Ha! I have tried to maintain my sense of humour. I think the advantages of increasing outweigh the disadvantages. At least you know what to expect and are getting nearer to the light at the end of the tunnel.

You are stronger than you think. Have you always taken in the morning. I take at night . I did initially take in the morning but felt awful so started taking at night. Still felt awful to be honest but slept better. My main problem was fatigue ..it's so bad you can't explain it...it sort of pushed me to the ground.

You have come this far..I would increase..I Am up to 150mg and so so much better

      Good luck

Don't over think things too much

      Watch comedy

I've said this loads of times..Vicar of Dibley and Absolutely Fabulous boxed sets made me laugh..which is good for you!
