Sertraline making me ill?

Posted , 6 users are following.

So I’ve been on 50mg for 3-4 years, over the past year I’ve been experiencing symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome, complete fatigue and lethargy/malaise for week long periods, no energy at all, my legs feel weak etc.

I’m a 23 year old Male, I go to the gym 4 times a week and eat healthily. CFS just doesn’t seem possible. Has anyone experienced this with Sertraline? I don’t even want to be on them anymore, I started taking them to control panic attacks but I feel like I can control them by myself now.

    Hi Dan

I don't think CFS has anything to do with fitness or age.  If you've been taking sertraline for years without issue this matter may be completely unconnected.  You need to discuss with your doctor.

      Hi Cheryl,

Can you describe how you were feeling? I go through periods of about a week of not being able to move, then I’ll feel ok for a week, and then it’s back. I’m just so scared and sick of  it

I would definitely go back and see your go.Its hard for me to explain exactly how I felt as I also have an underlying illness with very much the same symptoms.

Hi, Dan! I actually have clinically diagnosed CFS. I had CFS before starting sertarline. I am also very health conscious (eat well, exercise as able). From personal experience, I do not feel sertraline would be a contributing factor. I have high EBV antibodies which wrecks havoc on my immunity/body.  Perhaps that could be an area to look at with your doctor.  I understand the frustration completely!

Also- have you been going through a period of extreme stress or are you working out too hard? My triggers are stress or overdoing exercise. What helps is taking a step back and trying to eliminate possible stressors. Stress flares my CFS. Not saying you have CFS, but you could be going through a period of stress that’s causing your body to remain in a state of fatigue. Be patient with yourself. Rest, hydrate, keep eating well, and pace your workouts. Take care.

I’ve been on sertraline for just over a year and since been diagnosed with CFS! I have major body aches and weak legs! Headaches are crazy too! I’m in the process of getting off them!

    Good luck mate
