Sertraline more time?

Hi all, I have been on sertraline since mid October so 3 months now, I am in a week on 200mg now and to be honest sertraline hasn't done much for me, I am not depressed just GAD and depersonalisation that won't go away (I've had it 12 years) anyway I was on citalopram before sertraline and that didn't do much neither, are sertraline and citalopram like the same kind of drug? I know they are both ssri's. I didn't get many side effects off sertraline cos I cross tapered from citalopram. I spoke to my doctor yesterday and the pyschartrist that I seen before Christmas to assess me got back to my doctor saying I should be on venlafaxine which is a snri and I am dreading tapering off sertraline. I told the doctor I would like to stay on sertraline for 6 more weeks at 200mg to see if that does anything then cross tapered to venlafaxine. But now I am thinking sertraline won't do much for me and to start tapering off it now or should I give it more time?

Hi Pamela, I’m kind of in the same boat at the moment. I started in September and I’ve been on 150mg for around 6 weeks. I feel a bit better than I was but my main horrible symptom is racing thoughts and overactive brain and I’ve yet to see much improvement in that, although it does get less intense sometimes. I’m still hoping it will work as this is a very slow acting drug, but I’ll be interested to see what other people say. My doctor is not very knowledgeable and they mucked up my referral to a psychiatrist so I don’t know when that will come through. Sorry I don’t have any advice, just a lot of sympathy as I’m also struggling. Xx

Thanks Sarah yeah I am the same with the thoughts, stuck in my head and thoughts all day nothing distracts me from my mind...I'm going to give it 6 more weeks I do feel a lot better then I did but still don't feel like myself.

It’s horrible isn’t it. It’s  so hard for anyone else to get what it’s like and when you try to explain it sounds stupid! It feels like your brain is going faster than everything else or everything else is moving really slow. I’ll keep you posted on how I’m getting on as if I get better perhaps in time you will too. I was on 200mg years ago and felt better but I do remember it taking a long time. I don’t want to go any higher this time because of the side effects and I’m not as bad this time.
