Sertraline - need to stop after 2 weeks....bad side effects....anyone done this? How was it?

Posted , 4 users are following.

2 weeks on 50mg sertraline and very bad side effects, including itching and urticaria hives. Doctor has told me to stop taking it.  I was just starting to see the positive effects of it on my anxiety and panic attacks. Has anyone else had to stop? How was it? Scared symptoms will come back.

Only 2 weeks on 50 you should be ok from withdrawal in a few days, drink loads of water. I would fully expect your previous condition to return and it might even be worse. That seems to be a pretty common occurrence for others that stopped taking ssri's. Hopefully in your case because you weren't on them for long it won't be like that. Your doctor didn't give you another option?

Hi it is so easy for doctors to stop, start , up the dose, down the dose, and i know they try to help but its not them that is going through it, i have been through so much in my life i could write a book , i have seen hundreds of specialists for migraine for over 30yrs no cure, i have got eating disorders causing ibs more pills, i had a illness that could of killed me but i got a second change but on more pills for the rest of my life, but i had to give up my job which i loved, so i moved, out of city to countryside, god that was not the answer lovely peace and quite but so isolated, now no job no friends and a lot of time to think and that is when the depression anxiety, and panic attacks started, phoned the doctor and got help, but like you first i was put on 50mg of something called citraline up it to 100mg, but the pain in my head was too great, so he changed it to sertraline, first 3 weeks 50mg, did not feel very good but kept going then he up it to 100mg, and by god i could not lift my head of the pillow for a week and could not stop vomiting so without telling the doctor i cut them in half so they were only 50mg, but i di not want to feel pain, or do i want to feel depressed, but i am a strong believer in alternative medicine, its been a big relief to me in the pass, also good well being, i know it sounds hard when you suffer depression and other scary things, but pills just cover the problem and only help short term, you have to dig deep to sort out the root of the problems, and talking therapy is great, talking to a close friend you can trust, valerian is brilliant for relaxing and helping you sleep, so with your doctors help and these and other calming effects like camomile teas i am sure you will be fine but any side effects come off them slowly never good just to stop unless its harmful, well i hope this helps

Hiya! How are you finding it? I’m on my 2nd day of coming off. It was not suiting me. My lymph glands were getting swollen as my body didn’t like what was in them. I’m allergic to lots of medications so not a surprise really.

I feel fine mentally but my body feel drained. In a way it’s quite nice as a feel so relaxed. Trying to drink loads of water so that it is washed out of me quickly xx

Cut tablet in half for five days.....coming off fully tomorrow - only side effect is shooting pain in left elbow!!! Think that’s from tension in my muscles due to anxiety not sertraline though!!! Dry eyes and dry mouth starting to clear up and hives calming down too x not trying medication again other than propranolol....going to meditate and think positive - do CBT but not working yet xxx anxiety back today but I can deal with it c

Yes I’m going to try it without medication and do CBT. To be honest I’m feeling a lot more positive already. I feel a bit edgy and absolutely knackered but that’s it. Keep in touch with your progress x
