Sertraline pill colour.

Posted , 5 users are following.

I started on sertraline - half of a 50 a day - moving up to whole pill after three weeks. I had an upset tummy each day around 4 pm. The tablets were blue. Second prescription were white. Stomach completely settled down and i felt much better. Third prescription blue again and upset tummy is back! Could it be the blue colouring? Does anyone have any comment on this please?

My 50,s are yellow, I find my tummy settled down by taking a probiotics, because at first gives you gas and loose poops I am at day 12 of them, but the increase causes more anxiety. Meditation helps me deal with this

I believe that each brand has its own 'fillers', 'colourings' and whatever else they put in the ###### things. If you feel comfortable with the 'white ones' and it is a repeat prescription then do ask the Pharmacist if you can have the whites every time. I can't see why you shouldn't unless the GP has arranged for you to take different ones for a reason?

All the best and as lorraine says, there are things you can take to counter the nausea (which is so very common with this drug until you get used to it unfortunately)

    Hi Lesley.

mine was white,25mg I was on them for 8 weeks. And I was still getting loads old side effects... BUT the next packet was blue, I had a really bad headache and felt really really sick the day... but now I feel fine and I think the first didn't suit me, I looked at the ingredients off both and they were slightly different stuff in them. but I am sensitive to meds so iv put it down to the difference in them

the blue ones seem to suit me so I'm going to ask for them again.

I think the blue pill is the 50mg pill. I don’t know the white pill – my guess is that it’s 25mg?? Not sure. But the increased dose would explain the increased side effects that you are feeling?  I’ve only had the blue pill and the tan pill.

Further to my earlier post i have now spoken to pharmacist and have researched the ingredients of the blue compared to the white. It seems that blue additive E132 can cause problems for people who are sensitive to it. This colour is banned in USA. Australia Japan and Norway but is still allowed in Uk. So i guess i must just be sensitive to it

. I have to collect a prescription tomorrow so only have to take the blue for today. Lesley

Reeeeeesult! Excellent news if you can have the whites. Thanks for the info in case I 'react' to something, it is worth checking the 'ingrediants'.
