sertraline & propranolol

Was prescribed 50mg sertraline, been taking them for a week now. Have been feeling pretty flat, worn out & generally out of sorts so far but i know my body needs to get used to them. Had my review with doctor today and was given 80mg propranolol, as when i was on 40mg a while back they done absolutely nothing for me at all (anxiety/panic attacks and very bad social anxiety). I am just slightly concerned about the effect it may have on me taking both of them together, considering how i feel with the sertraline alone? Any advice from people on the same boat? x

Hi rachael i was on both sertraline 100mg and propranalol 40mg for approx 3 years and was fine on them both together. It takes a while for them to work but they did for me. U need to think positive though as the medication won't work if you keep thinking the worst. Hope you feel better soon smile

I take both together and Propranolol actually helped me with the negative side effects of Sertraline when I first started taking it.

Im on 50 mg sertraline (upped to 100 mg monday) and 80 mg propranolol (40mg in the morning and 40 mg in the evening). Sertraline is For depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Propranolol is a beta blocker so it helps to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks, it calms down heart rate, tremors etc associated with anxiety and panic disorders. If anything it will help with the effects of the sertraline. I started on 25mg sertraline and really struggled with it as it increased my anxiety so much but the propranolol stopped the panic attacks and made adjustment to sertraline  a lot easier.

ive been where you are and I can honestly say don't be worried by the combination. I know everyone is different but have faith in them, sertraline can be really hard to adjust to but once I got through the initial side effects I'm feeling the benefits after 5 weeks taking the combinAtion.

good luck and stay strong. If you want any more advice on this combination let me know smile

      Hi FDawg,

i know you replied to this post a while back i was just looking for a bit of help, i am on both pro and sertraline but have only just started the sertraline with some horrible side effects one being persistant indigestion which is making me not eat, im just wondering i take one pro early morning and one kinda mid dayish can i take the sertraline at the same time as the pro or does it need to be a different time? i forgot to ask my doc but i cant go back again as i been so many times in the last couple of months! cheers

Hi just a check are you now taking 100 mg sertraline and 80 mg bedranol, was a bit confused with the bracketed bit.

I have just gone back onto sertraline after a lapse but been ill and now have anxiety dubious of taking both together. Doc prescribed 40mg bedranol before I went back on sertraline but didn't notice any result still panicking

      Cheers

Thanks guys, been feeling so sleepy and fuzzy headed the past week with the sertraline, wondered how the propranolol on top of that would go. Was also told my doc today i may have to up to 100mg sertraline but see how it goes on the next few weeks. Sounds like i should be ok with them both together though. Today was one of my worst days at work with the anxiety so i really hope to be feeling better soon but i know it can take a while. rolleyes

The increased naivety wore off after a couple of weeks for me. I still suffer anxiety but the sertraline initially increased it to the point where I almost stopped taking. I'm glad I battled through as I'm sure you can. I'm upping to100 mg on Monday, I will have a few rough days but the benefits will outweigh the positives. I've been on it 5 weeks and am starting to feel it working, I just need a little more dose to get full therapeutic benefit. With all things like this there is no quick fix unfortunately but just remember each day taking it is one step closer to being back to your old self.

Stay at strong and good luck.
