Sertraline.. Reflux

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been on sertraline now for 9 weeks and for the last two weeks I have had a feeling of something stuck in my throat right at the bottom and sometimes when I have something to eat or drink i can feel it coming back up again and it sort of sits there and I can feel it in my chest. So I can only assume it is acid reflux or something. I never had this before taking this drug. Has anyone else experienced this. I suffer from health anxiety so this is making my situation slightly worse at the minute.

Thanks in advance

Hi Gemmastatt, I have the same problem ,just thought, it was due to the Christmas rich food, so obviously I didn't make the connection with taking sertraline. And also the choking feeling and having the sensation of having something stuck in my throat. But you'll find this odd ,but I'm really glad it's not something sinister as I had myself convinced that it was. So thanks for relieving me of that worry. I also recently feel that when taking my medication that sometimes I feel like you, that sometimes it doesn't go down the right way ,and it remains stuck there for a while, I just keep drinking juice and thisrelives itWhen I have the reflux I take a few mouthfuls of milk and this helps with the burning sensation of reflux. Hope this helps that you have someone like mewho's suffering with the same complaint ,and that now you can put this to rest ,as it's just being affect of taking this medicine. We hopefully have been able to help each other. I have been on Sertraline now for 7 months , it took a long time to work for me, only feeling significant  change after 3  months but I am now feeling the benifits off taking it. Everyone is different , as it works for some people quicker than other. So my advice would be to stick with it ,and hopefully now you can put this anxiety to rest. Try taking the milk to see if that helps. Happy new year to you and I hoping you feel at least some relief that you not alone x

Thank you for your reply, this has been going on for about 2 weeks now. I feel I can't eat anything as it feels like it is going to come back up. I also have the pill stuck in throat feeling too. It has made me feel better knowing I'm not alone though. Thank you. Happy and healthy new year to you too x

A lot of people, are affected with that awful sickness, it does seem, to be a side affect of taking this drug. Hopefully it subsides soon, if not please seek medical advise, but if your anything like me you'll try to paddle on. But of what I have read, it will get better. It easy to say when I'm not the one who suffers. But I really hope you feel better soon Try to eat some ginger nut biscuits in the morning it will help with the nausea x
