Sertraline round 2... How can I avoid weight gain??

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi!

I've been on sertraline before about a year or 2 ago, they did wonders for me but I seemed to gain around 2 stone in the space of a year.

Now I'm taking it again and my side effects have gone I seem to have an increased appetite and want eat a lot! Believe me it's hard to resist the urge to eat lol

I've been on it for almost 4 weeks now and have been keeping track of my weight, at present I haven't gained any but I'm dreading it coming back on again sad

Has anyone gained and lost weight whilst being on this tablet?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on sertraline for 9 weeks and Ive lost weight. I am very slim anyway and really want to put weight on. I just wondered how you have found the drug? I'm feeling brighter and have a sense of humour again, but can go for days where I feel there is a black cloud over head. I still get nausea sometimes, and every morning I wake early feeling jittery. Your feedback would be great.

    Hi again,

I seemed to be up and down alot in the beginning but now I think I'm stabilising.

I had awful anxiety at the start, upset stomach, felt sick, sweated loads, had diminished appetite, now almost on week 4 I still sweat quite abit, and I can't seem to sleep much I also have increased appetite.

I wish I'd lost weight I could do with it lol

Overall I'm starting to feel more like myself again, alot lighter in my head if you know what I mean. And I don't get the urge to cry for nothing or at pathetic things.

Yes I have found the same, I used to get weepy at some of the programmes on tv, now I don't shed a tear. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. From your previous experience how long doesit take for morning anxiety and tiredness to go. I hate mornings. I need to put on weight desperately but have to be careful what I eat die to the IBS.

I think it all depends on you really. Sorry about the vagueness of the answer. I have tried taking them at various times of day to see which was best. This time around I tend to take them at about 2ish or late afternoon. My overall anxiety seemed to drop after taking them for around 2/3 weeks. My primary concern is the weight gain for me at the mo.

maybe sertraline isn't the right med for u Hun if your still not feeling right? But I hav heard it can take quite a while for them to get into your system. Like a month or 2. Just keep an eye on how your feeling and if the weight loss is bothering You maybe see your doctor x

I dunno if you have been feeling any better?

Over the past few days I've felt really weird!! Kinda shaky and abit lacking in energy.

Only felt like this for the last few days.

Was thinking it could be my blood sugar levels? Or something like that. I'm not diabetic but think I'm gonna get myself checked out... Hope it's not that!

I haven't felt that great this work, very tired, and horrible muzzy, sucky headaches. I hoped after 9 weeks I would have been feeling much better. I'm still feeling bright in myself but my body is letting me down!

I have been on Sertraline 50mg for two weeks now and it seems to be working really well . I suffer from anxiety and agoraphobia which manifests itself when I am stressed . I was petrified of taking anti depressants especially after reading the leaflet and medical forums but felt that it was the only option [ already having counselling ]. The first 3 days were ok- no side effects but days 4-8 were quite a bit worse. I had a very dry mouth and sore throat which kept coming and going. Also I had horrendous sweats around 5 am every morning . These side effects have now almost worn off and don't really affect me. I take my tablet first thing in a morning so it doesn't stop me sleeping at night. I don't feel like a zombie but have a sort of warm fuzzy feeling which is great
