Sertraline setback.

Hello,
I have been taking sertraline for 7 months after struggling with anxiety and depression for 10 years. Anxiety and depression literally controlled my life before, but once the side effects wore off, sertraline changed my life. I was happy, calm and content. I didn't recognise myself. Last week, I started to notice the first signs of anxiety and depression creeping back. Intrusive thoughts, panic, worry, nausea, restlessness, loss of appetite - to name a few of the hideous things anxiety brings with it. I have only ever taken 50mg of sertraline, but the doctor has recommended upping the dose. I took 75 today and felt groggy as hell. Has anyone else experienced a poop-out after taking sertraline for so long, and did upping the dose fix things?
Best wishes

Yes, I have been on/off sertraline for more than 2 decades, and at one point I was able to lower my dosage to such that I was able to be on a 25mg maintenance dosage and this was from around 2014-2015. Then I had a full-blow anxiety/depression attack in winter 2016 and have since been back on 100mg. When I first got back on this med in winter 2016, I was at 150mg for awhile (maybe more than a year) to sometimes even 200mg (the first half year? Sometimes I forgot and erred on the safe side and take another 100mg pill). I know it sounds somewhat nuts, but I see my psychiatrist and I pretty much manage my dosage with him. I sort of decide my own dosage - my only problem in the past was that I always try to reduce my dosage and ween myself completely off of it. So I understand what you mean by the pooped-out effect. 50mg is a relative low dosage. From what I know - here are the increment breakdowns: 25mg, 50mg, 75mg, 100mg, 150mg, 200mg. You could try upping by taking 50mg one day and 100mg every other day, which would be 75mg daily, but please work with your doc on this. I find that it's a lot easier on your system if you increase by 25mg at a time.
My other rec is that REGARDLESS of being on this drug, the best way to manage symptoms is to try to manage your stress. Perhaps I will post this one day. I find that even if I am on this med, if I am doing too much and not managing my stress and feeling my stressors, then I have flare-ups. I think what you are experiencing is a flare-up of symptoms. Whenever this happens, the best to is try to manage and reduce stress first instead of upping your dosage. Then you will most likely return to your base (usual) level. Surely there must have been some events in your life recently more stressful than usual that caused this flare-up. Hope this helps.
