Sertraline SIDE EFFECTS?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi there

I've recently started taking Sertraline 100mg having just transferred over from Citalopram- which I was taking for approx 7years.

Since beginning Sertraline about 6weeks ago, I've been experiencing nausea, tummy pains and worse of all diarrhoea.

Can anyone please tell me if this is normal or is this extreme?!

Thanks

Hi - I have just come across your post as in the same position crossing over from Citalopram to Sertaline 50mg on day 9 now and at first felt fine but now feeling slightly anxious and irratable and nausea. Did these side effects go away for you, 6 weeks seems a bit extreme?

    Thanks

Hi Nottinghill, the side effects are hectic as you discribed, the worst for me has been the increased anxiety. I can live with the nausea and stomach problems. Sertaline takes anything up to 2 - 3 months, ok quicker in other cases, all got to do with your level of serotonin and how long you were down before you sort help. My advise is stick in there, if you cant take the side effects get your soctor to prescibe anti-nausea tablets and anti diarrhoea and a tranquiliser for the anxiety. Hang in there dont get anxious about it being 6 weeks, we are all different and respond at different times, Good luck, Rob

Now been on 50mg for about 6 weeks now and am feeling slightly brighter but not as much as I had hoped at this stage - maybe should up the dose to 100mg (obvs with my GP say so) ? Anxiety not too bad but generally not in a good place yet

Hi raraluke, describe what you mean about not being in a good space. Are you still feeling depressed, are you fatiqued, the anxiety is better, thats one good thing. How you sleeping. 50mg is a low dosage, and GP's dont like to go higher, so a visit to a phyciatrist would be better. I am in my 2nd week being at 150mg, started on 50, then 100 and now 150mg. The side effects have been terrible, but I am hanging in there, because there must be light at the end of the tunnel. My suicidal thoughts have gone, and I do have short spells of feeling ok, but thats only for a few mins. Living with major depression is most possibly the worst desease I can think of. Anyway hope that helped, Rob

My reasons for being on sertraline are more for pain coping with fibromyalgia than depression - it's the chronic pain that causes me to be low in mood - The other option was pregabalin which I was not happy about so am upping the dose to 100mg as recommended by my gp yesterday - hope you feel better soon

Sertraline really helped me on so many different levels.

When I first started to take them I felt really sicky and wobbly, but gp advised me to take them before going to bed. All yeucky side effects stopped and never looked back then. Helped me so much
