hello julie sorry to hear you are currently having these issues

what dosage of sertraline are you taking?  (just wondering if you started too high)

i had really bad vertigo (dizziness) issues when getting used to antidepressants in the past (if i moved my head at all, the room was spinning and i felt like i was going to be sick), so my doctor gave me something called cinnarizine which treats dizziness/vertigo (it is also a very popular med for things like travel sickness and sea sickness)

your vertigo should clear up on its own soon (perhaps a few more days?), but if it's very bothersome, perhaps consider going to your doctor to get some cinnarizine, to help you through it

are u feeling a little worse on 150mg than when u were on 100mg?

if so, you could back down for another week at least and take 100mg instead .. then when the switchover/starting side effects pass, you can go up again

keep us posted on how you are getting on, hopefully u just need a bit more adjusting time, hopefully a few more days (tiny improvements each day are still improvements)

      Hi

Yes I think so but my dr said she is going to put me up again if no improvement by next week

I just want my interests back and to feel me again

This is the longest time I've had a bout of depression it's been 8 months now with changes in meds

      Xx

i'm surprised your doctor is rushing you up so fast when it is sounding like your body hasn't had time to get used to the current dose you are on, but fair enough i probably shouldn't be throwing a spanner in the works and arguing with a doctors opinion

like what 'psyched out' has said here, venlafaxine is very different from sertraline so your head definitely needs some time to adjust to the changes (ie. on one hand, you are no longer being stimulated by venlafaxine.. that's enough to make you feel rough, but then also on top of that, new parts of you are being stimulated by sertraline, so you have those startup side effects to deal with also) .. it would make anyone dizzy!

if i can throw in my opinion, from your next dose i would stick with 100mg sertraline for one week, which means your switchover is not going to be as intense on you.  you can then re-assess from there (ie. stick on 100mg, or go up if you feel you want to and are ok doing so).

and during all of this, if you are feeling really bad from your meds switchover, perhaps a fast acting benzo drug from your doc would help, to take for a week or two, just to make you feel better during this adjustment phase.

keep us posted ok   and try not to worry, you will get to that good place again

You could be dealing with two things at once, the withdrawal from venlafaxine, and the beginning side effects from sertaline. Even though you tapered off of the venlafaxine, there might be some left in your system yet, depending on when your last does was. Your body is working on getting rid of one med, while a new one is being added each day. Needless to say, your body is working overtime, so try to rest as best you can. Many people get dizzy, and tired when they start sertaline, which sometimes aggravates anxiety and depression. I'm not sure about the muffled ears, but I don't doubt that being another side effects from starting the medication. Hopefully others will have some insight on that aspect.

      Hi psyched out

      I thought that about venlafaxine

I asked my dr she said that would be out my system as I finished it 3 weeks ago tapering

My forehead feels tight and the dizziness affects my ears I think

I'm so fed up with it all

      Thanks for reply x

Are you taking anything else that ir may interact with?? I was taking topamax and experienced dizziness. I gave up the topamax and increased my depakote. Check out your other meds.

Hi there, my wife has started 50mg of sertraline a week ago, was on 30mg of Citalopram and stopped that 2 days ago on recommendation of psychiatrist. She has a ravenous appetite, looks as if she is drunk, says she is exhausted and feels "weird" and is just all over the place, is this to be expected? I'm worried about serotonin syndrome!
