sertraline side effects

Hello

?I self referred to a psyciatrist about  7 weeks age who changed my antidepressant from paroxetine to sertraline. I was on 50mg daily for 3 weeks then my GP increased the dose to 100mg daily. After a week i started to get side effects of shaking, trembling hands, cold sweats, head pains and pressure behind eyes. Went back to GP who referred me back to psychiatrist and suggested i go back to 50mg daily. I persevered with the 100mg dose but side effects got worse to the point where i trembled so much that i couldnt turn the pages of a book, so went back to 50mg daily. Now getting mood changes and worried that antidepressant effect will vanish and that i should have kept going with 100mg dose. Anyone has similar problems with this drug, seems like its not going to work for me.

    Hi Peter.

Everybody is different but I found that with increases and decreases you will have the side effects for 2 weeks, sometimes up to 4/5 weeks if you're super sensitive to meds. Give it a chance to level back out again to see if it will benefit you. I increased by 25mg each time and is taken a good 10 weeks for me to feel 90% better with it. The mood changes are normal when it's levelling out again

Thanks fo the reply. I just feel that i am on my own with this, one minute i want to go back to 100mg and hope the side effects g away , then think try 50mg a bit longer. On thursday i felt good and making plans, then i felt worse on friday and today. Seems  to be going in the wrong direction.

You'll always have 1 step forwards and 3 steps back but keep persevering and you'll get there! I'm 12 weeks altogether and I have the odd bad day. Something as simple as too much sugar can make the next day for me a nightmare. Or not enough sleep. You're not alone. We are all here to support each other x

These tablets have got good reviews after they start to build you up again . It's a waiting game for the chemicals to level out I would stick with it , its hard I no I'm at that stage as well but you av to look after yourself and get through this awful stage don't make plans,  relax , take time out to concentrate on you x

    Hey Peter,

I started with 50mg and then up to 100. I have the trembling hands and I'm really shaky in the mornings.

It's a bit stressful; I have great difficulty writing. But my anxiety and depression are so much better I'm willing to put up with it. When I start exercising again I might try a lower dose. I quit last summer because I was in so much pain and I had a very depressed summer, very unusual for me since that's my up time. I started Zoloft in Sept. it's been a roller coaster ride, for sure, lots of side effects and it took a long time before I saw any changes in mood ( till I took 100mg). Most of the side effects are gone except the trembling. The shakes are only when I first get up in the morning.

Let me know how you're getting on... Krista 😊
