Sertraline Side Effects

Posted , 7 users are following.

So I have been on 50mg of Sertraline for 6 days now and honestly they have been hell! I could deal with the nausea and could somewhat tolerate the spaced out feeling. But the last two days my anxiety levels have been through the roof! I'm shaking terrible, feeling so on edge all the time and I had a breakdown for no apparent reason today. How long does this last because I can't do it much longer! Also did anyone have any side effects return when they went up in dosage?

Thanks

Hi, I'm on day 27 of 50mg sertraline, I had the spaced out feeling too. The anxiety was worse in the morning for me. I'm now taking 2mg daizapam as I found that helped me with the anxiety.

Im on week 7 of taking sertraline been feeling better from the 1st week. Had all the side effects too but in comparison to the depression they didnt effect me that bad if that makes sense? I have upped the dosage twice to gey to the target dose for ocd as agreed with psychiatrist. Both times some side effects have come back. My advice is grin and bear it i believe this is one of the better drugs for anxiety etc when it kicks in. Hopefully your side effects wont last much longer. There scientific reasons why you feel more anxious at the start until your brain settles.

I've been on Zoloft for 8 weeks and my anxiety is starting to come back. I take 50 mg a day. How much are you taking and has your anxiety come back since you started? Thanks

I am 5 days into hopefully my last increase 100g. I am taking for ocd but firstly to bring me out of depression. I would say if you feel like that and your taking for anxiety then you need a change in dosage? Best to speak to g.p etc

I was hoping I didn't have to increase my dose. I felt better but this week the anxiety is trying to push its way back in. Do you take yours for anxiety as well? And is it helping you?

Hi yes OCD is an anxiety disorder in my case the anxiety caused depression too, so Sertraline is definitely prescribed for anxiety .

Yes they seem to, i am scared to tempt fate knowing how i felt before but they have made a huge difference especially after wasting taking a anti depressant, Mirtzapine for 3 months which didnt work and plunged me into depression.

Did you or do you have problems with sleep?

Yes definitely that why i am still taking the mirtzapine alongside. Its getting better.

I was prescribed that but didn't like the weight gain side effects that come with it so I only took it for 4 days. I'm hoping sleep comes back soon. I'm taking hydroxyzine at night right now and it helps keep me calm through the night when I would usually freak out bad with anxiety  if I wake up thru the night. My anxiety has always been worse when I can't sleep. But I don't know how long I'll be able to use it or if I'll build tolerance to it. Just want to be better.

Plz plz stick with it, I had the same for 10 days, then it subsides very very subtly, other people will notice before you that you are improving. I remember paceing up and down my communal corridors in the middle of the night because the anxiety was so so bad , my thoughts were fast,  my hearing was sensitive , was the most awful I've felt in my life. The good news is, it passed and I got better and better, 4 1/2 weeks I was feeling pretty much 65% back to normal. You start not to be so bad in the mornings, then you have moments of absolute normality , then you sleep better and all together it took about 7 months to get back to reality. I'm still on the meds 2 years now. I do hope to come off and am trying to wean off, bit scared lol but lots of prayers and patience.

Good luck and hang in there you can do it, if you need to talk we are all here for you.

    Hugs 🤗 xx

How do you deal with it for so long? I honestly think my anxiety is worse now than it was before I started taking them. I do want to stick with this as it's my third attempt on anti depressants but I'm actually struggling. I'm losing focus, can't concentrate and the shaking is ridiculous! I know it's just a matter of sticking it out but it's hard when you hope the next day is better and it's not.

Thanks for your support, I appreciate it! smile

You're not alone Emma. I too felt tremendous anxiety, I'm on my 10th day, but it eased a little after 5 days. Still having the panic attacks, though. One day at a time, hang in there.
