Sertraline, side effects?? Advice please.

I've been on sertraline for about 8months, over the last couple of months i have started feeling light headed, faint, collapsing (not blacking out) and getting really painful headaches/migranes and blurred vision. Are these side effects of the sertraline or something else? I was only on 50mg up until a week ago when i upped it to 100mg. I don't think it's to do with me upping my dose because it was happening a while before that. Please advise.

Hi Leah. That sounds awful, I don't think sertraline has side effects that are that severe especially blacking out. Also I think most side effects tend to be in the first few weeks. Have you spoken to your GP about this? If not it would be a good idea to go so they can run some tests

Hi Jane, I don't black out, I just feel really lightheaded and faint then collapse to then floor. I get warning signs when it happens. I have been booked in for a 24hr ECG by my doctor, but was just wondering if it could be because of my meds.

it could be you know, i upped my dose from 50mg to 100 and i got really bad migranes, i'd had the migranes the first week of taking the medication and then it settled but still had them, when i upped my dose i got the same but worse, i had to take days off work and everything, was horrible, didn't get lightheaded from what i can remember but the headaches were really hard work, it does say that sensitivity to light is a side effect, i ended up sat in pitch black at home because i couldn't have any light on my eyes, it hurt like hell and then i'd start pretty much straight away with a migrane.  still very sensetive to light and i'm on 150mg now but nowhere near as bad as it was. it will settle, again just takes time for the meds to settle in your system unfortunately. hope you're feeling better soon :-)

Hi, it started happening before I upped my dose though. Thats why I don't think its because of that. Just wondered if it could just be a side effect of the sertraline in general.

to be honest i really don't know, so you're on 100mg now then?? i never have anything like that, i got bad migranes but not enough to make me light headed, to be honest, the minute i felt one coming on i took some strong tablets and went to bed!! i can't cope with migranes, sends me all funny, like pins and needles up and down my arms, side of my face goes numb and my brain just doesn't work properly so it's best that i'm not out and about when they happen!! hope you get some feedback from the ECG, i've had one of those before, it's nothing to worry over, doesn't hurt or anything, just wire your head upto a machine and read the brain patterns, it's actually really interesting :-)
