Sertraline. Some improvement but nausea and tiredness in a morning.

Posted , 5 users are following.

Have been posting to get help and advice on how to get through starting sertraline. Some better times but mornings generally a problem. This morning l have awful nausea and am tired. Anyone have any advice on how to cope with this? I am sipping ginger ale but doesn't seem to be making any difference.

Saying that everyone goes through it differently isnt something you want to hear. However from my experience I started to feel better after taking sertraline for around 3 weeks. I had all the side effects which is found hard to cope with, the advice i would give you would be to stick through it.

How long have you been on it and what mg? I'm on week 5 of 25mg and have had a rough ride. I found flat coke and tonic water with ice helped. The coke does contain a lot of sugar so need to be careful.

I have felt a bit sick in the mornings recently and nearly threw up a banana first thing yesterday! I don't take my meds on an empty stomach. I take them at 7 am with a homemade smoothie.

I'm still tired but yesterday I pushed through it and it felt good. Generally I've been going back to bed early afternoon to rest. Yesterday I was only in bed for 2 hours but was shattered by 7pm - but this has also been my normal bed time since starting the meds. I watch TV in bed until about 10pm. My sleep is still not great, waking up a lot in the night.

Thanks. Have been on 50 mg for over 6 weeks. (prior to that did 2 weeks on 25 mg). l ate a banana this morning , still feeling sick at 12.00 pm.Just trying to resign myself to the fact it is a bad day.

How much are you managing to eat? Just wondering if some of the nausea could be due to an empty stomach. It's so tough, maybe speak to your GP and ask for anti sickness tablets.

Have been eating better recently but realize in a morning my stomach is empty so do try and have cereals. l do have some metaclopramide but they don't seem to make much difference. Thanks for replying, just writing on this forum on a bad day can help

Stick through it. I've had all sorts of terrible side effects. I can tell you with great confidence it gets better.

Regarding the side effects, I don't know if you take it in the am or pm but find the best time that works for you. Also, the med works a lot on your stomach - if I take it without food sometimes I feel nausea and hear LOUD grumbling noises from my gut.

So, another tip? Try to take it with some food in your belly. But solid food, comfort food, like oatmeal or some mash is good.

Have you had days when you can barely function? today has been really hard, nausea only just lifting but now have headache. Take it after evening meal although forgot last night and took it about 10.30 without food. Thanks for replying, so helpful on days like this.

Hahahha. Funny you should ask this question. There were many days, weeks, even months when I couldn't function. I dropped out a semester of college. I missed a great vacay to London and France - I am from the States. There were many nights when I just wanted to go to sleep and never wake up again - I even begged God for this. I was like a zombie existing only physically. On some days my greatest accomplishment of the day was getting out of bed to take a shower. And now I am taking care of my mom as well as my husband. So this med works. Give it time.

You're most welcome. After I made out of my most recent attack in 2016, I promised God that I would help others on this forum because it really helped me when I was going through it. So, know you are NOT alone, and just pass it on down the line - pay it forward - should another person may be going through what you'd gone through.

But right now, just take it easy. Try to eat. Try to take a walk if you can. I have lost 30 lbs in one month before, subsisting on milk and an apple a day - I almost had to be forcefeed. Just know that this too will pass. Go easy on yourself. Make sure you eat, take a walk, get rest or sleep (I couldn't even sleep then). Hang in there. It will get better.
