sertraline tapering

I am wondering whether you did discontinue sertraline. My friend's son experienced crippling anxiety at 10 that left him essentially housebound. He is now 14 and has been on sertraline for four years. A dosage of 100 mg for the past six months along with therapy has essentially left him symptom free and he wants to taper off. He is also concerned about the longterm effects of the drug, including reduced libido and lack of interest in things he previously was interested in. In weighing the options of being fully agoraphobic or on sertraline, sertraline wins hands down, but he is hopeful that he now has the coping strategies to reduce or eliminate the drug altogether. Has anyone gone through this experience?

Hi! I'd recommend scrolling through the topics here as I've definitely seen people share their stories of coming off Sertraline that should give you an idea of what to expect =)

I read on here somewhere that you can get a taper kit of sertraline from somewhere. It basically consists of a course of sertraline that gets less and less very gradually so tapering is slow but gradual. There's no breaking tablets in half ..it would be worth asking google maybe. Good luck to your friends son

My son has a severe social Anxiety disorder, I searched and searched for natural ways to treat it before taking him to the doctor, he tried Valerian nothing much, then Passion flower some relief, and yesterday he started taking Ashwagandha, and I mean what a difference, he's back focused, being himself, I came home today and for the first time in 5 weeks, he's visiting his friends on his own. I was so happy. Here's a brief description of the herbal:
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen herb that is often used as a natural remedy for anxiety because it helps to stabilize the body’s response to stress. In a systematic review that assessed data on the effectiveness of ashwagandha as a treatment for anxiety, researchers found that most studies concluded with significant improvement in anxiety symptoms with ashwagandha therapy.
However, ashwagandha is not only a stress reliever. It also protects the brain from degeneration and it works to improve anxiety symptoms by destroying free radicals that cause damage to the brain and body. Research shows that ashwagandha helps to improve focus, reduce fatigue and fight anxiety without the side effects of most anti-anxiety medications.
