Sertraline, TMJ and jaw clenching - help!

Posted , 1 user is following.

I'm on Day 3 of sertraline and discovered it has made my TMJ worse with awful jaw clenching and muscle spasms during the daytime - which is just the thing we are hoping sertraline can help fix! Did anyone else have this symptom to start with and if so, did it go away?

I've had muscular jaw pain since 2016 - lots of jaw clenching and swearing under my breath at work takes its toll! Probably why my stress and anxiety is through the roof. I managed it pretty well with amitriptyline and physiotherapy until September last year when I had a flare up - my jaw almost locked. Fast forward to May 2021, the jaw muscle is still super tight and often painful. Nothing will calm it down.

I'm awaiting a hospital referral to see if there's anything else going on but apart from that, I'm now on Naproxen, Baclofen and Gabapentin to control the pain and muscle spasms. And now sertraline to see if we can tackle it from a psychological perspective instead. It's fair to say being unwell and stressed for so long has taking its toll on my mental health but I am doing CBT and exercise too.

I can just about handle the diarrhoea and dizziness for a week or two but the jaw clenching and sore teeth in a morning - not cool! Any feedback would be much appreciated x
