Sertraline withdrawal??

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have reduced Sertraline from 150mg now down to 25mg after 2.5 months. I am having terrible head pressure, dizziness and foggy head, tinnitus. I am really worried as the symptoms seem to be worse as I am coming down from Sertraline. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey,

I would think that you have come down too fast as I've been coming from 100mg since December. Horrible withdrawal symptoms since coming from 50mg to 25mg even though I've done it so slow. Since you are coming from higher, maybe you should stat on 50mg for a but longer but I guess if you have gotten past a certain stage, sticking it out could be good too of possible but from my experience, I'm 4 weeks down to 25mg and I'm still having symptoms that stop me functioning properly rolleyes

You may be right. What are your withdrawal symptoms? My head feels terrible, waterlogged, dizzy, pressure and I have been shaky and anxious.

Please let me know ho you ace been affected?

Hi Lynn, I have pretty much all you said . Severe fatigue, headaches, dizziness and I had the flu like symptoms which turned unto sinusitis (which I've never had before), them bronchitis where I ended up In hospital . I'm not sure if that's because of withdrawals but I don't think coming off sertalime helped. I couldn't sleep, the sinus pains were so bad. Ive had vomitting and diareeha at the same time. Just horrible stuff. This is my first week that I haven't taken 25mg. I was taking it every 2nd day and now my moods are changing every few hours and the sinus headaches are back and my mind is racing ( I'm also coming off a contraceptive injection - depot provera) that I was put on for my moods so I'm getting menstrul cycle back too which is not helping with my irritability but what I think is, if you have at least one person around you that can support you, try get through it. Stay on 25mg for a good while, Then come down. If you don't have support maybe go back to 50mg for a month or so. I'll try to keep updated at how I'm doing. I am determined.

      Hi angT

Last week the doctor transferred me to 20mg liquid Prozac. This was to help me get off Sertraline. I had a bad reaction and was told to stop take no it. Since then I have not taken Sertraline because it is not good to mix two different SSRIs. This week my symptoms have been horrendous. Today my head feels like it is about to explode. I guess I have now come off this drug cold turkey! I have managed to sleep ok but I feel so ill with dizziness, nausea, waterlogged head, tinnitus. I just hope I can push through this. I wish I had stayed on the Sertraline but I know that you can still suffer even with a careful taper. Keep me posted about how you are doing. Xx

Well fair play to you for how you are doing and definitely acknowledge how well you are doing to push through because it definitely is horrendous. Just take each day as you can and keep seeing your doctor if needed. I refuse to go to my doctors so that's also a motivation to just keep going.

Just an update. I went to my gp regarding my severe nausea,, dizziness, headaches and mood swings and we decided that I'd come back onto 25mg and see how I am in 2 weeks. I have been off everything for around 6 days and the withdrawal symptoms are making it hard to function. So she thinks I have cane down too fast

      Hi angT

I have been off Sertraline for 14 days. Withdrawal symptoms are horrendous. Waterlogged head, pressure, headaches, shaky, nausea, tinnitus. I probably have come down too fast but both of us have found that even with tapering, the symptoms can be brutal. Keep me updated as it is helpful to compare symptoms and progress.🙏

Hey Lynn. Another update and hope you are doing ok. After going back onto 25mg for the last 5 days, I am now not having any withdrawels or issues. I can actually function today. I think I'll try to stay on the 25mg for another few weeks, and I'll check what I Can do after that. Seeing my doctor next week.

      Hi AngT

It’s interesting how the withdrawal symptoms reduce by going back on Sertraline. I am now off it for 20 days. My head feels heavy and I am still dizzy and nauseaus. I am going to keep off the meds but it is very hard with these awful symptoms. Keep posting as it is useful to compare symptoms. 🙏
