Sertraline withdrawal

Hi, was put on sertraline 25mg (3rd time I've been on it) took it for 3 weeks. Had awful side effects from it mainly severe increased anxiety. Decided to stop taking it and do without anti depressants. Dr agreed with me and said my side effects were too severe anyway to carry on taking it. Told me to stop immediately as I shouldn't have a withdrawal because I'd only taken a low dose for 3 weeks. I knew I would have withdrawal symptoms though I always do but needed to be off them. Stopped taking them 10 days ago. I feel like I have the flu. My throat hurts and seems to be swelling up but only now and then not constant. I've had aches. I'm exhausted and just want to sleep all the time. I feel so weak and am crying everyday. Physically I am absolutely drained and scared I'm never going to feel better again. I don't feel depressed although obviously I feel low at the moment. But I know what my issues are and how to deal with them. I'm in a positive frame of mind. In my head I know it's withdrawal but it's jesting longer than I thought and it's more severe than I thought. Anyone else have these type of withdrawal symptoms please? Thanks

hi, the effects should pass soon so try not to give them any attention although i know that's not always easy to do

maybe you could try something different instead of SSRI meds.  you could get some Inositol powder and take some of that every day, it is supposed to be very good for anxiety, and in clinical trials it proved to be at least as effective as prozac

Inositol is natural so you would not get the types of side effects you get with SSRI meds

Hey jobland! It's Clara I changed my username! I've written you a reply but it's saying it needs to be checked by a mediator for some reason? Hang in there, I only took 2 50mg tabs and they've taken a good 2 weeks to go and I'm feeling good now! Hopefully my reply will show soon if not I'll re write it xxx

Hey Clara good to hear from you! I was thinking about you and hoped you were feeling better. Glad to hear you are! I had to give up after 3 weeks on them, couldn't take anymore and it wasn't improving. Even the dr said to stop. So went cold turkey and been feeling c*** since. Be 2 weeks on Tuesday so I'm hoping I'll feel better in a week or so when I've been off them for about 3 weeks. Just the physical withdrawal side effects have been worse really, so tired and feel fluey! Are you on anything else now? Xx

Gosh in my opinion that drug is awful! But I guess it must work for other people. Never again for me tho!! Yep the worst part I hated was the nausea and no energy but I just took an anti sickness tab for a few days and nothing else! I also took that liquid iron energy stuff you can buy and sports drinks for some energy. I've also been listening to relaxation audio which have been fab! And I had to give in rest a lot but still doing as much as I could each day to keep me sane! I felt so ill. But I'm fine now, and the anxiety I had before seems like nothing compared to this experience, so in a way it's helped me to think it wasn't all for nothing. Easy for me to say now I'm feeling better, but you will soon I promise. Xxx
