Sertraline withdrawal

I was taking sertraline for a little over a year. My doctor and I planned to wean off it this summer. I was only taking 50 mg and I weaned down to 25 mg during spring break with a bit of symptoms but nothing too serious. Then I went down to 12.5 mg for about 2 weeks a d then stopped taking them. It's been 6 days and I am struggling with headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, increased anxiety (which was the reason for taking it to begin with), body aches, sleeping problems, etc but the thing that is bothering me the most is the increase in heart palpitations. My question is, is this normal? I have always had palpitations even without the medication and I have a heart murmur and have seen a cardiologist for this but it is nothing serious. Do you all think this will settle down? How long will it take? THANKS FOR READING AND FOR YOUR HELP!

Hi. sertraline withdrawal can be fairly unpleasant and is best done very, very slowly. i took 6 months going from 100 mg. the symptoms you mention do sound typical and will definitely improve slowly. however with your history of palpitations it might be wise to just check with your doc to be safe. best of luck with everything and i hope that it all clears up quickly for you.

Stick with it - it's very common to feel like that and it will pass. i had anxiety and a very low mood when coming off from 25mg to 0mg. If you feel you can ride it out it will pass but may take a few weeks (took me about 8 weeks). Otherwise maybe think about going back up to 25mg and tapering down much more slowly with smaller increments. Whichever you decide to do just be assured it will take time but it will get better. Good luck.
