Sertraline withdrawal after 2 days?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi. I am very new to this forum stuff! Just needing some advice. I was prescribed sertraline for anxiety but after 2 days it made my anxiety worse than ever and various other side effects which have made me want to stop. My question is what would the withdrawal symptoms be like after this short period and how quick would they start to happen? I don't see the point weaning myself off as it would be adding more into my system when really there isn't that much there to begin with. Any advice would be great smile

Take 25mg at night then no zombie feeling in day but looking at all reviews it seems to work different for each and everyone its a process of trial and error.

U really need to give it time to work, and symptoms should ease, but if u really want to come off them u won't get withdrawals after 2 days

Lorna  2days is no time at all. These are slow acting drugs & can take up to 8 weeks to feel the full positive effect. Increased anxiety is a very common side effect but it should disappear within 2 weeks.

Its your choice to stop them & no you won't have withdrawal symptoms after such a short time, but if you want my advice I'd grasp the nettle & ride the storm. It's worth it. When I look back 5 weeks & the state I was in was ridiculous. All I wanted to do was stay in bed & cry. I took 2mg of diazepam to help the anxiety which I don't take anymore as the sertraline is starting to do its job. Good luck with whatever you decide. X

Hi Lorna, withdrawal symptoms won't kick in after 2 days. When mine ran out, I didn't take them for a week b4 I started to feel anxious. It also depends how long u've been on them! smile

you should have no problems coming off after only a few days, and espite some people take less, 50mg is the standard dose. you have two choices, either stick with it and get past the initial side effects, stop it and go back to your dr and ask for a different SSRI or another antidepressant, SNRI etc....there are a few diff. ones available, such as duloxetine, venlafaxine, mirtazipine etc....not everyone responds the same to each AD, therefore you may be ok on another one. Other option as you say is to go down route of CBT....which best results are usually a combo of CBT and AD's, so another option. Some people find AD useful to open them up to therapy initially, but everyone diff. The half life of sertraline is about a day, so washed out of the body quite quick, so a few days should be no problem to stop. Good luck x
