Sertraline withdrawal symptoms-advice please

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi all,

I have been on sertraline for 18 months and decided 4 weeks ago to gradually come off it. I have reduced my dosage from 50 to 25 mg a day.

For 2 weeks all was fine apart from tinitus in my ears but that seems to have gone now.

4 weeks in and I feel shocking. Very sad and very anxious, little enjoyment in anything.

Every time I eat I feel sick and wondered if this was a normal side effect of withdrawal, any ideas? Any positive words would be very appreciated right now. Thanks x

Hi there. I have gone cold turkey for nine days and I’m ill. Had to take a tablet can’t go on like this. Withdrawal affects are killing me. Anxiety, very low mood, flu like symptoms are all terrible. Feel as if I’m going to pass out.

I hate taking any meds. Now and then the sertraline starts to dissolve as it takes that long to swallow and then it leaves my tongue feeling numb so god knows what it’s doing to my insides. I’m on 100gm aday been taking them around 15 years. Really want to be off them.  I know the depression and anxiety will still be there but I’ll face that.

I am having to come off sertraline 25 mgs after only 10 days because of severe dry eyes and blurry vision.  Did you experience any of this .  I am not sure how to do this.  I am sorry that you are having nausea but I would expect it is normal as I experienced it for the first week starting sertraline.  Why did you decide to come off when you had been on it for 18 months if you don't mind me asking.  I don't know if I will try another.  I seem to have the severe fry eyes with any I try.  Best of luck to you Suzie and hugs.

Hi, I've read that it's best to wean off extremely slowly. I think your symptoms stem from having decreased too much too fast.

When I weaned off Zoloft, starting from a 50-mg pill, I decreased by 5% of a pill at a time, and waiting several weeks/months in between each decrease. This way, I experienced no adverse effects.
