Sertraline withdrawls

Posted , 4 users are following.

I'm trying to reduce my sertraline and did 100mg to 50mg for 4 weeks then 25mg every day for 3 weeks but the symptoms were too much so I went back a step and habe now been taking 50mg one day 25mg the next for 5 weeks but the symptoms are horrific!!! Is 25mg one day 50mg one day ok or could the peak and trough of this higher lower amount be causing worse withdrawls for me as the drug has a short half life.

I was planning on sticking here and stabilising for a couple of months but the symptoms do not seem to be even lessening ...

Please help ..would love to hear from others

Sertraline did help with my issues but the side effects were so bad that I am now on Citalopram 10mg. I was on 50mg Sertraline for 4 weeks, never again. I would go back to your GP and discuss things with them.

I would of thought consistency has to be kinder on your system. Has your doctor recommended this fluctuating dose?

Yes they recommended it ..i figured people do alternate reductions like 50mg alternate days etc so this is less of a severe change but not sure !! I've booked an appt with docs at 8 weeks on this combination to re evaluate where I am . I just wanted to see what others thoughts were x

I have also been withdrawing from Sertraline. I went from 150mg in January to 100 in Feb and then came down from 50 to 25. My doctor recommended taking liquid Prozac to continue the withdrawal but I had a reaction to it. The withdrawal is horrendous. Foggy head, spaced out, anxiety, agitation. I am now off the drug and am taking a bit of clomazapine when needed.

My advice to you is to taper down on the same dose and not change every other day. Also even if you taper, you can still experience terrible withdrawal. Please let me know your symptoms and I will keep you posted about my own.

I hope things improve as I know exactly what you are going through.

      Hi Lynn

Thanks for replying to me. I feel it's catch 22 for me if I make another change lower to 25 every day I'm sure yo catapult further but if I stick here to see if I stabilise then I could be better off evebtually. But it could be the 25 50 combination mak8ng my symptoms ever worse I just don't know as by week 5 on this combination I would have thought I'd be feeling a bit better ? I thought stick on this 3 more weeks then review with my docs..i didn't want to make another change and start this all over again!! Only to have to go back a step again!! It's awful knowing what to do. I thought before reducing to 25 if give my body chance to stabilise but it's just not happening. X

      Hi again

I understand your dilemma but I still question the constantly changing dose. What are your symptoms? A lot of people talk about side effects but I think we all experience them differently.

I would be interested to hear how the drug is affecting you.

      Xx
