Sertraline / Zoloft loss of apatite and nausea ?

I am 34 years old male , non smoker or drinking . I was having a globus feeling in my throat and was thinking the worst. Was prescribed Zoloft -Sertraline- 25mg for healthy anxiety, panick attack thinking it was “c”, stress with work . I started off having some minor nausea and apatite loss from anxiety I was having. “Thinking something was wrong with me .” After multiple test -barium swallow test , blood work , and ENT . Alot was ruled out . I took some allergy medicine that stopped a post nasal drip , to which I think and my ent thought was causing the globus feeling . So I started taking this medicine every day . I have been hit hard with complete loss of apatite. I have been taking this for close to two weeks. The very thought of food turns my stomach . I have lost 14lbs in the two weeks . I changed my food intake to extremely healthy food . Hoping if I have gastritis it would help . I don’t have health insurance and a trip to the GI will set me back thousands upon thousands with a endoscopy. Has anyone else had similar experiences with this medicine ? If so how long does the effects last after you stopped taking it ? I stopped taking it today in hopes I can get rid of this non apatite and nausea . Any knowledge or help would be GREATLY appreciated

Hello, I have an anxiety issue and experience globus very commonly when my anxiety is raised. Often sertraline increases your anxiety (and globus) in the first few weeks whilst your body is getting used to it. Likewise a lack of appetite is really common with anxiety and if anxiety is increased in the first few weeks the sertraline will likely explain it. Its counter intuitive i know but you do sometimes feel worse before feeling better on SSRI medication. Hang in there if you can, it does improve when you find the right dose and take it long enough to settle in.

2 weeks is really early though so its not surprising you haven't felt the good effects yet. I am on week 3 to 4 at the moment and the side effects, including globus are reducing now. It can take months before the optimum improvement in your route anxiety issue is reached but you feel slow improvement each week.

    All the best

My anxiety all started with this swallowing globus feeling. I had endoscopy, barium meal etc and spent about 12 months trying to find the answer through changing diet, seeing ENT specialists until i was finally diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. It all makes perfect sense now but at the time i was convinced that i had something physically wrong with my throat/swallowing etc. Anxiety can cause the most varied symptoms but a common complaint is tightening of the the throat muscles that causes the globus sensation. The knock on effects of lack of appetite and digestive complaints are all anxiety related. How long have you been on Sertraline? 25mg is a very low dose to resolve anxiety but we all metabolise and react to medication differently. You can DM me if you want more info?
