Sesamoid, bunionette, and lingering resting pain for over a year. How can I begin to heal?

Hi all,

I believe my problem started as a walked up the stairs carrying heavy furniture one day. I put a lot of weight on my left foot, just under the pinky toe. I made it up the stairs fine, but the next day my foot felt mildly uncomfortable.

I brushed it off until I played basketball a couple weeks later and my calf suddenly got strained. After that, I walked a lot, and then about a month later, I tried playing basketball again, and this time, there was a popping sensation in my calf.

So I stopped playing basketball and started searching for answers via doctors and YouTube videos. I got both feet X-Rayed, and both feet happen to have an auxiliary bone at the head of the 5th metatarsal, about where the pain is. Both feet have the extra bone, but only the left foot has any pain.

Rest, massage, physical therapy. It has all helped very little. The physical therapy helped my calf heal generally, but it seems to plateau because my foot is not healing, and it forces the calf to overcompensate and get re-aggravated. It seems the foot feels more pain when I am resting. Socks, shoes, and lying on my side hurts it more than walking seems to.

I also go an MRI, which I've attached a picture of above. To me, it looks like there is something where the pain is (the black spot in the middle of the white tissue below the pinky toe). I thought perhaps it was a muscle tear, but my doctor claims it is not.

What do you think of this MRI image? And more importantly, do you have any ideas about how I can find out what is wrong with my foot and begin to heal it?

Thank you,

Brandon

PS. Picture doesn't seem to be working unfortunately.
