Setbacks on Sertraline

Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced set backs when taking Sertraline.

I had a breakdown in 2014 and was prescribed Fluroxetine initially, but moved onto Sertraline 50mg.

Stupidly I stopped taking in in January this year when I joined the gym and was fine until about 5 weeks ago when I began a new relationship, after being seperated from my husband 18 months ago after 14 years together.

I started to feel really anxious and couldn't function properly, which is awful when you have 2 children to look after.

So I decided that I should go back on the Sertraline and combine that with exercise.  I had forgotten how awful those first couple of weeks were, and lost a lot of weight through lack of appetite.

Then by week 3 I was starting to feel better and less anxious.  However, this week I've felt absolutely exhausted.  I feel like I need to be in bed by 9pm but then wake about 5am!!!

I'm also anxious about things/arrangements that are coming up in the future, worrying that I won't be able to attend functions etc.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of setback, where you feel great and then suddenly you feel like you've taken a few steps backwards again?

My mum is a worrier but has never taken anything, but my sister also suffers from anxiety and my nan from depression.  It has also come to light that my great-grandmother was a manic depressive.

My other question is for the ladies.  Does anyone feel particularly anxious taking Sertraline when you are due your period?  I wondered about this as I think I'm due this week and was thinking perhaps that could be making me anxious.

Anyway..... enough rambling and hope to hear back from someone soon.

Thanks

I was taking a maintenance dose of 5g sertraline for many years, then I had a bereavement, then a near death experiences myself. Was just starting to feel well and had big bust up with my daughter lasting 3 months......so yes, life throws some crud at you and now I'm very low. How did you come off Sertraline? Maybe it was too quickly? I did have loads of anxiety but it's mainly low mood/lack of interest and motivation now. Six weeks into higher dose, and I'm hoping this low mood disappears soon.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about troubles.

I just stopped taking the sertraline when I joined the gym. Big mistake as i was fine for about 3 months as I suppose the medication was still in my system.

Then suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks. I lacked motivation, enthusiasm etc etc.

Friends advised me to go back on it and that's when I had the issues of reintroducing into my system again.

I think the best thing is to go with the flow and ride out the issues as and when they occur. They will get better.

3 days before my period and the first 3 days of my period i would get extremely depressed while taking sertraline. Which had never happened before when i wasnt on it. And i also became very fearful of future events and i would get nervous about running errands and stuff like that. Sertraline wasnt for me and now im coming off of it.

My Dr. Just wants me to use diazapam when needed. I have it now but only use it on days of high anxiety or when i feel a panic attack coming on. Which is only maybe twice a week. She gives me 5mg pills and i cut it in 4s and use a 4th of it and it helps. She also said if i wanted to we could try celexa. But i rather just not take ssri's and try to learn to deal with this on my own.

    Hi

I have been on sertraline for about 7 weeks.  I  have my ups and downs.  I feel good for a few days(almost normal) and then I seem to have setbacks.  I am very anxious when I know I have to go somewhere.  I haven't been able to drive much since the beginning of Feb.  This is very frustrating to me.

    Keep trying
