Setraline help!!

Posted , 4 users are following.

Having been on setraline since last march (150mg) and pretty stable I crashed after Christmas. Had my dose put up to 200mg roughly 7 weeks ago but anxiety and depression is still haunting me. Sleeping on average for 11 hours a night but have no energy through the day and no interest in my kids or my partner. Having horrible intrusive thoughts and it's affecting every part of my life. Haven't worked for 6 weeks and any time I think of going back panic sets in. Really don't want to change meds as I went through this before starting up on the setraline. Has anyone any hints or tips to start me getting back on my feet or should I just deal with the meds not working 😞

Sorry to hear of your problems Marion. It's really around the 6-8 week mark that you should have some indication that it's working. Is it working at all? What kind of thoughts are you having?

Marion, it seems to me the med IS working, but perhaps not working as quickly as you would like it to work. It usually takes up to 8 weeks to see the beginning of improvements or you start to feel a bit better. Sleeping a lot is a good sign. This is your body telling you it needs rest. Give it 2-3 weeks more. There have been studies I’ve read recently indicating that sleep is one of the best ways to recover from an illness, physical or mental. There are folks saying that that sleep is the most important thing for your body. It makes sense because it spent 1/3 of our day sleeping. I also remember once as a kid, I was so tired and hungry after returning home from a final I had crammed. As hungry as I was, I hit the sack and slept for hours before I woke up to scarfed down plates of food. And so, get plenty of rest. Also, it takes up to 4 months to feel the full effects of this med. So hang in there. It is a good sign that you can sleep and are sleeping lots. Just give in to sleep. Eventually you will feel more energized.

Aaarrrr Bless you , don't worry about work that's the least of your problems ,it's not important but you are. What made you crash at Christmas . I think you need to go back to your doctors. Maybe 200mg is to much for you.

See my GP tomorrow so we'll see what he says. Just keep thinking my life isn't worth living and imagining taking all my meds. My relationship is totally breaking down and my kids are suffering. This is the 7th time I've went through this since my daughter was born nearly 5 years ago. I have no interest in anything and really have had enough 😞

Marion, you sound exactly like I was. I’ve had about 8 major attacks in a span of 2 decades and each time I never know if I will come out of it alive or the same as I was. But each time I get out of it, I find I become a bit better person and happier, if you can believe that. Hang in there, go see your doc, take you med, time time time will heal all things (including you!), relationship is hard – please remember, it’s hard for your family to see you like this so give them some leeway – but don’t forget the most important thing: you are loved and there are times in life when you and me - we can’t live for ourselves but for others.

Stay strong! You will get better - if I can, you can! Xx

I'm so sorry you are in a bad place but please think of all the good things that has happened in your life. Did you suffer from postnatal depression? Good luck at the doctors and keep us posted .

I had PND too for about a year after my first born but I didn't take anything ,but I was a lot younger then . I don't like giving advice because it's not the same for everyone , we all go thought life in different ways , but I do think if you have stuffed with something like PND you will be more susceptible to depression . Just remember how you got through that . There is light at the end of the tunnel just keep looking . I hope the doctor gave you some good advice? Hang on in there it can only get better . And you have your beautiful family .

So doctor has advised another couple of weeks off work and to go back in the 3rd of April. Give myself and medication time and keep up with my group therapy classes and use my Valium as and when needed. Getting a full blood work done as well. I suffer from low b12 but just had my 12 weekly injection so can't be that causing the tiredness. Thanks for the support guys and I'll keep you's posted on my progress ??
