Setraline side effects

Hi

I started setraline 50mg 2 days ago and feel dreadful, headaches, dry mouth, increased anxiety, no Appetite, diarrhoea - how long will this last?

My mood is generally feeling better but now struggling with these side effects.

Is it ok to take pain killers, paracetamol with setraline?

Thanks

Hi, I know exactly what you mean. when I first started within the first 4 days

I had no appetite at all..... very dry mouth....I also had abdominal pain.... I felt

so rough i rang NHS direct for advice and was not going to take them anymore.

I'm glad I pushed thru and carried on. Ive now been on them about 6weeks

and feel SO much better!!! Just keep on going. good luck!!

    Jmr70,

Unfortunately, everything you are feeling is directly related to the sertraline. For me, these side effects lasted for a couple of weeks, but there are side effects that are not immediately noticeable, such as, decreased libido, weight gain, and an emotional numbness. These are just the side-effects that I noticed personally. I hope you won't have to be on it very long. In my experience, it's not worth it. Good luck.

I was put on Sertraline about 3 months ago, had lots of problems specifically problems sleeping, The doctor increased my dosage. Things only got worse for me. I was getting only a couple of hours sleep a night, feeling light headed, increased blood pressure weight gain and it affected my sex life. I am now in the process of coming off these horrid tablets but it takes several weeks. I am feeling better already and wish I never took these from the start.

My suggestion to anyone is read all you can on these, particularly the side effects so at least you know what you could be getting yourself into.

So I just started this last night, so far nothing like anyone is saying, but I am on the lowest doses 25 mg. My doctor gave it to me so I can sleep better, due to COPD and not being able to sleep. Well first night was better then before I slept a full 4 hours which is better then none in the last 48 hours, so my view on this so far is ok.

Hi, I had exactly the same and with severe nausea too. My GP prescribed me cyclizine for the nausea & loperamide for the diarrhoea. After the first week I felt much better with it. Been on it 3 months now and definitely feel so much better in my self & back to the old me.

Hi Moth, thanks for the encouragement, when did you start feeling better? Regards Rob

    Hi Rob,

By the end of the first week I started feeling less overwhelmed with everything and wasn't bursting into tears at the drop of a hat. I can't say exactly when my mood lifted but I went back to work after 3 weeks of starting the Sertraline and it had definatly lifted by then.

I'm still taking the 50mg I was started on. I've had a couple of times where I've wondered if I should step up but as my GP said- everyone has bad days. Give it a day or so to see if it's just a bad day and then if you're still low come back in for review.

I've got no intention of even thinking about coming off until I've done 6 months as the thought seems to be that it can take up to 6 weeks for the serotonin to reach the right levels and around 6 months for those levels to kind of fix.

    Hope that helps

The other thing to remember with forums etc is that generally people who are having the worst time with the drugs are posting because they are looking for help and support. As a rule people who are coping well with a drug don't think to go on a forum to say "this drug is bloody amazing. Best thing I ever did"

So don't worry about the amount of negative stuff you see on forums. There are a lot of people coping well. It's just about getting the right drug

    Hi all,

Following my initial post back in October, I can honestly say it is worth persevering. My dose was increased to 100mg at the beginning of November after a few wobbles and this has definitely helped me.

I find I can cope with general everyday stresses much better. I can sometimes feel shaky but do put this down to tiredness, more from staying up late rather than the sertraline causing sleep issues. At week 4 I had a week of struggling to sleep but this did pass and although I was prescribed sleeping tablets I didn't take them.

I'm hoping to wean myself off of these tablets eventually but for now they are definitely helping me.

I agree with what moth450 is saying, I drove myself crazy reading all the negative comments on the forums and almost convinced myself that I would get every side effect that was mentioned!

    Hope this helps. Keep positive
