Seven weeks ago I had what was probably a viral infection with a cough and laryngitis. I felt only mildly unwell for 1 day. The cough eased fairly quickly but the hoarseness and deep sore throat have persisted. I'm constantly clearing my throat and occasionally have an intense tickling in my throat forcing me to cough which is not helping my sore throat. I saw my GP after the first 10 days and after examining my throat said it all looked fairly normal but the symptoms could persist for weeks or even months.

I feel well enough in myself but I'm finding the situation is now getting me down

I had similar persistant problems mad worse by over using my voice. Eventually I ended up attending speech therapy. The therapist told me that the need to cough was becuase your throat produces a mucus to protect itself. The mucus is what was tickling my throat and making me want to constantly clear it. The more I was coughing the more damage I was doing. Instead of coughing I was told to take a drink of water instead. It was difficult to do but it did make a difference.

April 2013 I got very sick, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breathe, sore throat, hoarsenesss,  ear aches, sinus infections, fever, chills, sweating, and fatigue.   I was treated by my family doctor frequently till August 2013.  It was determine that I have COPD with excerabation and Asthma.

I was referred to a Pulmonary Specialist.  He basically classified me as an ex-smoker that brought on COPD disease by my own fault.  I continue to be very sick November 2013 had pneaomonia December 2013 got the flu virus.  I really never got better and I completely lost my voice.  I was in a lot of pain and discomfort until August 2014.   I demanded to be referrered to a Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist (ENT).

I was diagnosis with several infections in my voice box and had Acute Ulcerative Laryngitis.   My vocal cords are still infected.  I have been on voice rest since August 2014.  I am regaining some voice but definitely not my own voice.  The damage is yet to be determine.

I am very angry and feel violated.  I trusted my health to a doctor or just basically didn't give a dam.  The violent coughing caused other problems with incontinuence, which I am being treated for.
