Seven weeks on I feel more depressed...

Hi All,

It is now 7 weeks since i started Escitalopram. I am on 10mg a day. I am sleeping well but for too long and have absolutely no motivation to do anything. Not helped by being unemployed I guess. I had just started a new job a week or so after I started on the tablets which I ended up leaving as my new boss criticised me and I couldnt cope with that. The side effects subsided after about three weeks thankfully but now I actually feel no better mentally, infact probably worse because of the apathy. Is it possible that the effect of the tablets could still make a change in my mood? At the moment I feel its 7 weeks invested with no change. I am seeing my G.P next week for a review but would be interested if anyone else has had the same experience. THANK YOU!

HI Jenny, yes I think you have to give the meds more time,it has taken me 11weeks for a fuller effect . I do feel better but still have some morning anxiety that is getting better. I started a meditation class that is really helping as well as exercise and a good therapist.I am on 20 mg of lexapro and a small amount of klonopin until the medication levels. I hope this helped a little. Talk with your doctor. Good Luck and God Bless.

Thank you Pam. maybe I am expecting to wake up suddenly feeling fantastic and this is ofcause not the way it works.

Maybe i will need to up the dose but dont like the idea of more side effects coming back. I know meditation would be helpful but my lack of interest is making it hard to commit to. Lets see what next week brings. Best Wishes to you.

    Hi Jenny,

I'm on 15mg of Escitalapram and its taken me 20 months to get here.

i too have some anxiety still but i can deal with it now...it has helped enormously with my panic attacks and phobias.

unfortunately, i was taken of Mirt one day and put on 20mg of Escitalapram the next and have been suffering ever since so not sure what is that and what is Escitalapram side effects.

i have terrible insomnia and feel agitated at night. I too have trouble getting motivated and also remembering things..plus constipation which im sure is Escitalapram so continually dealing with that.

Escitalapram is supposed to be the one with the least side effects which is why i stuck it out for so long, that and i dont think i could do another change just yet...

i hope the doctors can give you some answers but i too think youd probably need to stick with it for a little while longer to see if things settle down..

    regards,

    Gina

      Hi Gina

Thank you for your message. Its good to hear of others experience with this drug. I will carry on and see if my G.P wants to put up my dose. I hate taking pills especially when there is no benefit yet. I am having issues with driving and have bad anxiety on motorways which is stopping me working. I dont know why this started as I have had no problem up until about 3 years ago this fear escalated and hoped this medication would help with that also.

Hopefully a few more weeks will show improvement. Best Regards Jenny.

    Hi Jenny,

20 months you referred until the medication escitalopram kicks in?

I have tryed 3 times with this med totally 4 months each and the first two months I suffer from the side effects and the next two months I feel no progress in my anxiety.

Of course I have to admit that for me is very good for the motivation because I all the time have an energy to to things but not effective to the anxiety (for me always) and I had heard in this site, that escitalopram first deal with depression and then helps the anxiety, But I was never told that I have to wait for so long as you said 20 months..Now I am taking nothing, just a bit of benzo from time to time...I know its no good but its the only thing that gives me serenity...

I wish everyone have a better and peaceful live!

Hi Arietta I have only been taking the tablets for 7 weeks. I think it is Gina that has been on them 20 months. So I am hoping for improvement sooner than that. Everyone seems different in their reaction. I hope its not a waste of time.

I sleep well and feel very unmotivated which bothers me. Everything is an effort. Sounds like you have more energy but with agitation. Which is no fun. Are benzos like valium? I tried this a couple of times for travel nerves and have to say felt much better. Shame they are so addictive. Best Wishes to you. Jenny

    Jenny,

The one I take called tranxene and 0,5 mg is not heavy at all, its like you have drunk a glass of wine.

I think that are much lighter than valumes but doctors say yes, they are also addictive. So what a shame lol... My mother has been taking it (benzo) since 30 years, 0,5 per day, every night before sleep and she is (touch wood) very well with her brain system...and not been addicted. so I do not believe always to the doctors. I do not know If you have heard the expression that they are dealers of the drug industries and antidipressants are expensive drugs and they propose them always...even to the people that in reality they do not need to.

Anyway, from my experience maybe you need to increase the dose to 15 mg and stay there next 2 weeks and then you see some difference. As I referred, I was on 20mg and had very good motivation but not peaceful mind as I referred, but as you told, everybody is different....good luck, I am sure that within next month you' ll be much better!
