I had an Both side hip replacement surgery, both at a time.

Used *Ceramic on Ceramic*.

I am able to walk, but post surgery having very sever pain in right side knee with lot of burning sensation. Kind of unbearable my doctor says its normal and asked me to use pain killer's.

I know my situation its like someone is pulling my nerves, cant even touch over my knee!

I'm unsure of my situation please advise what to do?

It would be helpful to have more information such as how long since your surgery, what approach, fitness level, how far can you walk, are you using any aids...anything else you think may be important, perhaps your age etc.

    All the best, Richard

I’m 8 wks post on my LTHR. Had the right done a year ago. That one was a breeze. This time all I’ve had is pain and discomfort. Also have pain at side of knee and right below knee down my shin. Burning/pulling sensation. Sometimes I feel discomfort in the side of thigh too. At my last post op appt surgeon said probably a pinched nerve and wait 6 weeks to see how I do. He wasn’t my surgeon as my surgeon just retired so I’m not going to wait. I need to get back to work. Have appt with neurologist next week.

    Hope ur discomfort subsides.

Seems you are going through my situation! I was planning to visit a neurologist aswell!

But again my surgeon said it could be possibly a pinched nerve however I can't bare the pain anymore!

Harish, oh wow he told u same thing huh? It’s finally feeling better in the last day or so. I actually did some stretching exercises which I had stopped doing and it didn’t give me extra pain as it had. I have noticed some extra swelling up to my buttocks now. But I still have the burning/pulling sensation down my shin and top of foot towards outer edge. Right now if I didn’t have this swelling I think I’d be able to walk a lot better.

My physical therapist said my problem is most likely starting at my lower back since I’m having lower leg discomfort. And the reason being is that I’ve had one leg just a tad longer with the first THR and now with this one (so it seems) aling with surgery which has changed my gait and that would certainly affect the muscles/nerves, etc.

By the way I’m doing physical therapy for an arm and not my hip yet.

Oh no! My surgeon gave me some pain killers and asked me to wait and see for sometime!

But I can't take it any longer!

I don't think your problem is haveing something to do with (you’ve had one leg just a tad longer with the second one)

Yup same thing doctor told me. Wait and see how I do and go back in 6 weeks. I need to get to work so I looked for a neuro. My pain isn’t constant. The burning sensation goes away if I sit or lay down. As for the knee pain it takes a little while to feel better once I’m resting.

Are you using an aid? Wat approach did you have? I had the anterior.

I agree that having a small leg length difference is very unlikely to give pain issues. If an inch plus then yes. Likely to be due to a back out of true effecting the muscles and best dealt with by a good chiropractor if that is the case. It would also be worth doing an on line check into your sleeping position as this can make a large impact on your back etc.

      Cheers Richard

Hi Richard, I’ve wondered about my sleeping position as well. I didn’t know there was an online check. Thanks.

Have an appointment tomorrow with neurologist hopefully he might help me out

Let us know what the neuro says. I won’t see one until Monday. I’ve got different swelling now and will see the surgeon tomorrow. ☹️
