Severe anxiety

Does anyone get terrible anxiety in the morning? I do and it usually wakes me up very early and I can't get back to sleep. I take Xanax XR and Effexor at noon. But my anxiety is very bad in the morning. I get thoughts, all negative that I can't get rid of. I'm just so alone and I'm looking for someone with a similar condition. I've gotten some good advice from this site. Thank you everyone.

I'm just alone and scared that I may hurt myself.

I do and not sure why either.  If I meditate it does help.  I don't wake at  early normally but am more flooded in the morning, with negative thinking

I'm tired of living life this way. I think the worst is going to happen and I can't break that cycle. My phychiatrist says I'm lonely and still morning the loss of my girlfriend from seven years ago. And my father passed away three years ago. So loneliness makes depression and anxiety much worse.

      Thank you Deb

I find anxiety can be worse in the morning when I have expectations for the day to get a certain amount done. I work alone and it helps to make sure I get time in to pray and read the Bible and then meditate on scripture throughout the day. Also, getting outside and exercising helps.

Don, I know that loneliness feeling… It's horrible.  I was divorced in 2010 and a basically got nothing out of the divorce. I went from living in a upscale neighborhood to basically nothing because my ex blew  all our money. I was completely alone and didn't know what to do. I am still struggling and it gets very very lonely when you're used to having a family around all the time. My kids are grown  and they do what they can to help me. I had anxiety before the divorce but after it just went berzerk!  Complete with  panic attacks, all the symptoms of anxiety, anxiety especially in the morning with rapid heartbeat etc.

I decided I had to change something in my life because I couldn't live that way either.

i'm going to tell you what I did but the one thing that really helps me a lot is listening to the audio meditations found on YouTube that deal with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, getting a good nights sleep etc. I put in my earbuds, lie down and listen.  I do this a couple times a day especially at night when going to sleep in sometimes in the morning when I feel anxious.

One of them is really good and it teaches us what most people don't know about removing anxiety and panic.  It's called anxiety attacks cure-self-help anxiety treatment.  It's short and to the point .  I have tried it for a couple days and it does seem to work!   I think in about a week I should see a big difference.

there are many other great audios that you can choose from. One I really like is called detachment from overthinking. There are others for emergency panic attacks where you need help right away.

another that is really good is meditation for clearing subconscious negativity.  You can also look for positive affirmations on YouTube which  when done regularly will help your subconscious to actually believe them! They have helped me a lot to feel better.  These are all found on YouTube. Try them! I think they could help a lot.

A book that would be worthwhile for you to read is called mindfulness meditation. That also teaches you how to separate negative thinking from yourself. It's excellent!

Here are some other things I do:

I know you're seeing a psychiatrist, but  what I did was first of all speak with a counselor. They see this on a daily basis and have the tools to help you manage this. Anxiety and stress is difficult to manage on our own and it really helps to talk to someone else. I keep going even when I start to feel  better because it's like a lifeline for me. Find a counselor you feel comfortable with. Some counselors will use CBT which is cognitive behavioral therapy. That helps you see the anxiety for what it is and it helps you manage it. If you ever really feel out of control and can't manage, seeing a counselor would be the first best step!

Remember....FEAR  stands for false evidence appearing real.   Which means sometimes when we have symptoms we think they are related to some terrifying disease, when in reality the odds are much higher that they are not.   Our minds  will go to the negative if we let it, so we must be in control.  I know you say you think the worst but remember that is just a thought, it's not part of you! When you have a negative thought don't try to fight it off.! Acknowledge it  then imagine it floating off on a dark cloud.   The book I list below talks all about this and is very helpful!

Don't let fear take you over! Be a fighter for yourself!

I consider myself still very emotionally weak but I am fighting for my life!

Stay active!   Stay active! Stay active! The worst thing you can do is sit around and think too much about all this. It will bring on more anxiety. As well as the symptoms. When I exercise my body completely calms down and the symptoms often go completely away.

Stay social! This helps keep your mind off your worries. The less you are alone the better at least until you manage your anxiety. Just do things that you enjoy.

When  feeling anxious or anytime you'd like, do deep breathing. Breathing through your nose for about five seconds and make sure your stomach rises. Then exhale through your lips as though you're blowing out a candle slowly for another five seconds. Do this as many times a day as you need to. It helps if you're lying down but you can also do  it's sitting.

Eat healthy! Stay away from processed foods especially sugar. Sugar has an inflammatory response including in the brain. This will just increase your anxiety and can possibly bring on depression.

As horrible as anxiety symptoms are, they CANNOT  hurt or kill you!

.   Our minds  will go to the negative if we let it, so we must be in control.

I like this quote "when fear sets in, dig in with both feet and keep fighting! "

Don't let fear take you over! Bea fighter for yourself!

FEAR  is based on non-reality because it means we are scared of something in the future or of the unknown. It's something in our thoughts but it's not real.

I understand that you are still missing your girlfriend.  It's very difficult I know because I have been there.  I had to let him go in my mind in order to find my happiness. I still have memories but I no longer let them make me feel depressed. It's only going to hurt me if I do and I can't let that happen.

I'm sure  you have a good psychiatrist, but sometimes a counselor who specializes in relationships can really help you get over this! These things are hard to overcome on our own. I thought I could do it but it was just too difficult so I spoke with the counselor who has really helped me!

Sorry this is so long but you deserve a great life with happiness and peace of mind! You can do this it does take a little effort but it's definitely worth it!   I know the horrors of anxiety along with it's terrible symptoms and panicky feelings….However our lives CAN  improve  and life is definitely worth living! I hope you feel better soon 😉

Yup I'm the same way. I wake up early and have all these negative thoughts and self doubt. I keep thinking how much I hate myself and isolated I feel. Later in the day I start to feel better probably that's when my meds kick in.

      Take care. Don
