Severe anxiety

Hello everyone,

So I've been prescribed 5mg diazepam to get over a very anxious/panicky time.

Problem - I'm scare to take it! 😩

Despite being on seroxat for 18 years I have 'episodes' of panic & this one has unfortunately stopped me eating & sleeping.

What can I expect from the diazepam?

Hi faye.. 5mg of diazepam can & often will make you very groggy BUT it does make you feel more relaxed..  Im also on 5mg & only take it when Im in serious need of it as a short term med.   The only probs with diazepam is that it has a dependancy if taken in a long term period..    PLEASE do not be scared to take this med.  Take time to relax & chill out for a short while hun.. I also take diazepam when in need, only 2mg though. I have sever panic disorder coupled with generalised anxiety and depression.

2x 2mg diazepam knock me out gently whilst allowing me to fully relax, it takes all my anxiety away and let's me...just be me, it's exactly what I need when feeling overwhelming and uncomfortable anxiety moments at night.

Please don't be afraid to take it, you will instantly wonder why you thought you'd regret taking it about half hour after you've had it.

Just give it a try? Honestly, it's so worth it.

I was scared when I first took it but my panic attacks were much worse than what they are now and to be honest I wanted to take anything to make them go away, it took 4x 2mg but eventually the anxiety and panic went and I slept like I'd never slept before.

It will help you but be warned that over doing it can lead to dependancy which means 5mg would no longer be enough to help you as you're body would get used to processing 5mg faster and so it will have less and less effect. I mean you'd have to be taking it every day for a few weeks but the risk is still there and it's worse to come off of them than antidepressants.

Hope I didn't scare you but it's all in the package when taking benzodiazepines.

Hi faye..  Diazepam suited me well & gave me the anxiety respite I needed..  Makes you feel a little drousy but helps you to relax hun.. I call it a chill pill..   Its time wise effect is different to each person.. It could last a 2 hour period to 8hr period..  I experienced no increased anxiety at all.. If you GP has prescribed you 5mg, then thats what you should take as recommended.. You may find 2.5mg (half tablet) enough.. PLEASE go by what you GP has recommended hun ok.. xx
