Severe anxiety or could there be an underlying illness.

For the past 5 months I have had extreme anxiety and nervousness every single day of my life. It's so bad I can't even go out with friends like I used to. The main symptom is nausea and loss of appetite. I feel nauseous all the time (24/7) but when I'm at home I can make myself eat and drink enough. When I go out all that goes out the window. It doesn't matter if I'm with family or friends or even alone. Even te smell of food makes me almost gag and drinking makes me even more nauseous which is not good because I get dehidrated. Been slightly dehidrated for 5 months now with protein and urea levels increased in my blood backing that up. Every school day is a battle to stay focused on classes whilst dealing with a dry mouth, nausea with short sessions of feeling really hungry, dizziness because I forget to breathe and eventually a stomach ache from not eating. I try o eat but I feel like I ate so much that I'm about to puke (even though I didn't eat anything).

Other symptoms: feeling hot (at night, like I have a temperature), a constant temperature between 37.3° and 37.5° (99.5 fahrenheit), takes me a while to fall a sleep, feeling tired in the morning, nausea after a workout that goes away after half an hour of resting. Could it all be anxiety?

Well, Jason, it probably is all anxiety, because you can eat and drink at home.

If you were unable to do that, I would be saying that you should be at the doctor's asap.

However, if the protein and urea levels in your blood are raised you must have been to a doctor already, or you wouldn't know these results.

What has your doctor said about this nausea and inability to eat and drink whilst away from the home? Obviously that it is anxiety, or you wouldn't be asking on this forum if this is possible.

I hope that the doctor has referred you for therapy and that you are engaging with it. How long has this been a problem?

I can make myself eat and drink at home but I never really have an appetite or the urge to eat. I just feel like my stomach is full all the time and like I would throw up if I eat more. When I'm at home, I'm relaxed and know even if i throw up nothing bad would happen so I manage to eat enough. Even then I can't eat like I used to, I could eat 10 eggs for lunch but now I'm struggling at eating 3 of them. I eat at least 10-15 really small meals a day so the total caloric intake is enough for my body.

The eating problem is much worse when I go out because the anxiety and worry of getting sick gets me even sicker.

Have you been seen by a doctor and diagnose with anxiety? Has everything else been ruled out??? I ask because you didn't say.  Yes, all of it can be caused by just anxiety.  I have been dealing with it for over 20 years, my main symptoms are chest related, I feel like I'm having a heart attack pretty much everyday, not fun.  But I have also been to every doctor imaginable and had all the tests including a heart cath in 2012 and they find nothing wrong with my heart. I also have other symptoms like you described like the nausea, hot and cold flashes, increased heart rate, tingling in my fingers and toes, rapid breathing and tingling in and around my lips (usually from hyperventilation), pains in my arms, feeling like I am not in my body like a weird video game or like I'm inside a robot, heavy arms and legs, IBS symptoms, heartburn, pain and pressure in my stomach and epigastric region, pain in my back, shoulder, the list goes on and on.  Now I don't have all of these all at once all the time, sometimes just one or a few together. Anxiety is really fascinating when you research it and how our brains have so much control over our bodies.  I would suggest seeing a doctor or psychiatrist about medication and/or therapy.  The best I ever felt was on a combo of medication and when I was seeing a therapist regularly. Unfortunately due to loss of insurance and financial issues I am not on anything or under a doctors care and am struggling once again.  Do NOT google your symptoms, you will ALWAYS be dying of some horrible thing even when you aren't (from experience), instead try looking up ways to cope with it on your own like meditation or grounding exercises, herbal remedies, and other coping techniques. You never know what might work for you. Best of luck!!!

The doctor said high blood urea and protein were byproducts of dehydration and that I should go to a therapist to see if the problem is in my head. I was diagnosed with depresion, anxiety, mild neurosis and one other thing I can't really remember. We started therapy about two weeks ago. It just bothers me how it all started at once with no warning ...

I should say, it all started after not sleeping for one night as I was going on a trip to Italy overnight (12 hour buss ride). Got there, stepped out of the buss and almost fainted, followed by extreme nausea for the rest of the day. Thought I caugt something but it never went away.

There are better days and worse day ofcourse.

Jason, are you awake 24/7 as well? Because you can't be nauseous in your sleep, can you?

I suppose you mean that it starts as soon as you wake up.

What has your doctor said and what tests have you had so far?

I had a standard blood and urine test, and yes it starts when I wake up. I am seeing a therapist currently. My doctor said the high urea and protein were most likely byproducts of dehydration and I haven't had any further tests. I will give therapy a month and if it doesn't get any better I will go back to the doc. Thank you for the reply!
