Severe Anxiety. What can i do?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have suffered from anxiety for years, however these last few months its been terrible beyond belief.

My main symptoms are horrible nausea and regular (daily) panic attacks which can last for hours, an urgency to escape (have to be outside), and my symptoms get worse at night. (work outside every day)

I have tried every coping technique i can find. I cant relax or switch off in the evenings. Every night im panicking. Its really getting me down and is starting to affect my work. Although i try to maintain regular meals and generally eat healthy i cant eat at night times due to the unbearable nausea, and it does on the rare occasion make me physically sick so i cannot take comfort in the fact it is only a feeling and nothing will come of it so tend to skip evening meals to control my body a little (although i know its untrue its a sort of placibo)

Im already on medication for my anxiety. Im on Mitazapine and Pregabalin. Both taken at night and they make me sleep (wouldn't otherwise).

Should i go back to the doctors about this? I dont feel the medication is really helping but doubt any more medication would either. Really at a low now.

Hi, I know how you are feeling. I have/am going through the same at the moment. I think you should go to your doctor and tell him/her. Maybe what you are taking isn't right for you. We all react differently to the medication, and some medication may be brilliant for one person but not effective for another. I've not taken medication for years as i have been scared to. I controll anxiety through a healthy diet and exercise. Unfortunately, that wasn't working for me these past months and i'm not in control of it at the moment. So i got the courage and went to the dr last week. I'm on day 2 of citalopram.

?Sorry you feel this way. But go see your doctor, absolutely!

    Good luck

Panic attacks are trying to tell you that there is something wrong in your life, you are not in control.   Sit down and write out all your thoughts and worries, then assess them.   Dont hurry this, look at yourself from afar and try and think how you would comfort a child.   This will distance yourself from things and give you a better insight.  If there is nothing wrong physically, keep saying to yourself - I am a very healthy woman and I have the courage to deal with all this.   Its not easy, I can deal with my panics during the day but I wake up with mine.   You are not alone, many famous people have suffered from panic disorder.  Read Ruby Wax,s book - Sane New World, it is so helpful xx

Because of your eating problems, yes Anxiety can cause these problems although I would advise you talk to your GP , so make that appointment

Have you tried Mindfulness Relaxation Technique, that may help you relax in the evening. You can get books on Amazon. Just something that may help you

Have you tried CBT? I have experienced terrible anxiety and although I am better I still struggle from time to time. Therepy has helped me cope and will hopefully get to a better place. I have MS so everytime I have a set back with my illness I spiral into a terrible place. Therepy is teaching me how to deal with life and not being able to control everything. Best of luck and please know that you are not alone. This is a great place to read other stories but be mindful of the negative out there.
