Severe back pain

I've been having severe pain in my back, it's unbearable, it worsens when I'm angry or under stress. It's feel like my back is being squeezed so much and the pain rises up my neck and I honestly don't know what to do. I do have a 1 year old and the pain started shortly after I had him. I just want to know what I can do I'm unable to do anything without my back aching and wanting to cry.

Age? Any numbness? Being one that has already had 5 spine surgeries ..

Ice 10 min heat 20 min..

    if temporary ibuprofen,massages, tens unit,.

then on to relafin,Robaxin, xrays then next stage Lortab, percocet, Mri, steroid shots then surgery.

That will all take about 6-8 months after you start with your doctor..also a pain management doctor.

    Hi Janelly,

I had back pain for years and it was very difficult when I had two young children so I know what it's like.(Not the giving birth bit obviously, more the lifting, carrying and stress when they cried constantly).

Most people with back pain don't have any serious medical condition. More common causes are muscular tension and bad posture. The fact that it gets worse when you are angry or stressed may indicate excess tension.

IMHO you should get it checked out by a doctor and of course follow any medical advice. Try something like Yoga/TaiChi/Pilates if the doc says you should exercise.

I know it's difficult with a little one but try to get some time to yourself to de-stress. An exercise class is ideal.

Best wishes and let us know how you get on

Hi , as most of back ache is some degree of muscle spasm that is why it is worse when you are under stress etc. This is where meditation and breathing exercises aimed at relaxation come in if you can learn Mindfullness Meditation ( I did a Breathworks course in it ). Have you had an MRI scan ? If the pain is ongoing then I would ask your GP for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon and they will give you a thorough assessment and usually an MRI scan to check for prolapsed discs etc. my son was nearly 12 Ib born, so I know all about big babies, my back was shooting into spasm from 6 months pregnant with him. I have 3 prolpased discs but other things too now, so not one simple solution for me. But if it's having such a profound affect on your mood and leaving you open to depression etc I would go and see my GP !! I did !!
