Severe back pain and i

Hi I am new here, I've been told I can't be helped but I am convinced something is wrong. I am a female 25 and always been healthy. I have been in agonising pain for six weeks now, constant calls to gp and several trips to hospital. The worst is my lower back on my left side and down the leg but it's spreading to right side and up spine. I've had an mri and saw a consultant today, he looked for five seconds said its not a disk and in three months it should go. I can't walk, get myself out of bed and I can't control my bladder, ie I can't push my wee out! This has got bad in the last week and half so after my mri. I'm depressed as constant pain and can't do anything, consultant was no help didn't even look at my scan and things have changed since then anyways. I'm on strong pain killers and that's it. It's my body and I no something's not right but can't see to get any help. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Squeek, I can totally empathize with you, I know exactly what you are feeling, but before I go any further I must tell you that it really does get better and you can get your life back!!!.

I too had and still have back problems. Very many years. Ago I had a spinal disc, C4/5 rupture on the left and then on the right side resulting in a total collapse,I spent a week in hospital and I really thought that I would never walk again! Five years ago I had another disc bulging onto my spinal cord, this time it affected the other leg.  I still have no feeling in my left leg and a bit of dropped foot, but the pain really will calm down I promise you. The medication you take  can make a huge difference, ask for painkillers and also anti inflammatory medication, also a low dose of antidepressants .help a great deal with pain and the anxiety. I know it seems impossible at the moment but you must try to relax  because tension causes Muscle spasms and more pain. Try to move as much as you can, also have you any hobbies or interests that take total concentration and are enjoyable. Please keep your hopes up and push for all the help you can get, your life will come back make every day one step nearer to it happening.

Sincee regards to you, take care and be kind to yourself. X

Thank you, since reading your kind reply I've pushed to get more help, and now have an appointment in a few days time to see another consultant. If there is nothing specific or I don't need treatment at least il get reassurance, but just hope they will take me seriously as in your twenty you shouldn't suffer with poor bladder control let alone pain. I'm glad your on the mend and thank you for your support xx

    Hi

I experienced similar pain in many parts of my body and I was warned to expect to complete my life from a wheelchair because of the severity of my problems.  Eventually I found that the problems were caused by tight muscles in the  waist area (gluteus muscles).  What worked for me was the use of a machine called Backlife which costs £200-300.  The use of the machine is a pleasant experience even though it is exercising a very painful part of the body. My experience was that the machine was only effective if used many times a day (say 5) and it took  2.5 months to get relief from the pain.

Since then, many of my friends have successfully used the technique with their back pain.  Most gained relief within 2 weeks of using the machine.
