Im on my third dose of taking methotrexate. Not noticed any change and side effects have been manageable BUT after an hour of taking it my lower back is agony. Its like im being stabbed all over. After 2 or so hrs it goes. No painkiller touches it.

Anyone else had similar reaction??

Many thanks

Can a muscle relaxer, or strong enough medication be given for you? Methotrexate causes extreme pain and induces fibroymyalga for me as it does many others. It lowers the immune system and has caused everything from kidney pain to dental infections for me. Once off it, and the biologic, much of the pain went away. What pain is left us managed by tramadol 2x daily and 5 mg prednisone.

Strong enough pain medication with a daily prednisone dose (5 to 10 mg)?

Hi guys I need help. I too have been suffering from a lot of pain in my back. My stomach also feels tender. I'm on 25mg injections abd it's not doing anything for the pain. Hands still get fat and wrists are sore. Found a lump on my back so I'm waiting for an ultrasound to get that looked at. Doctors thought I had an infection in my kidney / urine area so I've had antibiotics for that too. I told my rheumy that I had back pain but he looked at me like I was mad. Just kept asking me if I could be pregnant then proceed to tell me that they wouldn't do any tests to find out!

Have you stopped methotrexate? My daughter has been on it for almost 3 months has severe spine pain and pain in her hips. No pain killers touch it. I never drempt it would be from this drug. Let me know how you made out. Thank you!

I had the exact same reaction.  The next time I took it I drank lots and lots of water immediately after I took the med and continued to drink a lot of water throughout the rest of the day.  That made a huge difference and the back pain went away.
