Severe depression and speech issues

Hey everyone!!

I was just wondering can depression make it somewhat hard to speak and cracking/stuttering as you try to speak.

I find that speaking for me takes enormous effort and energy to get the words out, seems like my brain is so depressed that even speaking is labored.

Basically it just feels like I have no energy to speak at all and mumbling as I'm speaking due to the lack of mental energy.

I just wanna know if this is a common problem and I'm not dealing with something more sinister.

I also have focusing problems as well but the speech issues is what I'm worried about the most.

Please offer insights!!! Thanks.

I've also had an MRI of my brain for this issue and nothing was found.

Hi, what a drag about your speech.  To me, I'm no doctor but it sounds like you have social anxiety which can cause a stutter.  Good news is social anxiety is fully treatable if you go to therapy for like 17 sessions. i know this cuz an ex of mine needed therapy for this.

     good luck.

Hi thanks for responding, I think that might be what I have also but I was also thinking it might have something to do with my severe depression but wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same symptoms. It basically just feels like my speech is suppressed like as if there's no fuel/energy to speak. Thanks again for your input.

It is really interesting. I guess if you aren't nervous around people. then it could very well be depression.  This year a spent in total about two weeks in bed because of severe depression.

I just google 'stuttering and depression" and yes there are other people who have this problem. go to, you can write urls here but google-

"make room for the stuttering- depression and stuttering.

Thanks for the follow up, I have googled this and yes there seems to be a good amount of people that have this problem but I wanted to use this forum to see if anyone can relate (at least from this forum) to my symptoms. I'm hoping once I start celexa this problem will go away if it's indeed depression. Thanks.

    Hi,

It is possible that you are suffering anxiety problems.

Are you able to mix socially or feel okay with people around you.

I have suffered depression, anxiety and ptsd for many years.

I thought I was finally getting better but after having participated with many blogs on this site I am starting to feel bad again.

Might give it a rest, I find it draining now .

    Mike.

Thanks for the input Mike, I think it might be anxiety too as well. This also happens whenever I'm around people that's why I avoid social interactions at all costs. I'm starting citalopram and hopefully it'll help with this issue.
