Severe disability premiums

I’ve aplied for severe disability premium on top of my ESA as I claim PIP so I am entitled to this I have been claiming pip since April 2016 and ESA since may 2015.
Does anyone know if I am entitled to back pay from April 2016... This will be around £62 a week so it’s well over 4K
When I made the claim over the phone I asked about backpay and he said yes but he doesn’t know how far it’ll get backdated from and suggested 3Months but I did mention to him that it’s a premium and not a benefit and he admitted that he doesn’t know how long it will actually go back then.
Has anyone ever received a backpay for severe disability premiums?
The reason it’s took so long for me to apply is because I only received a letter last week when my PIP claim was re-looked at and extended for another 3Years without medical.
It said extra money - severe disability premium and they asked questions if I had a carer which I don’t and if I am single which I am. So that’s when I called them up and done it over the phone.
Thank you in advance

It's backdated to when you became eligible regardless to how long that is.

Usually they send out a form for to claim SDP it's called IS10. I'm surprised you done the claim over the phone. By claiming over the phone you have no proof that it's been done. When was this claim made? Also by filling out the form you canadd a specific date that you want it backdated to, they'll then check you were eligible for the length of time.

It's backdated to when you became eligible yes, as already stated. You can either ring them tomorrow and check the date that's on the computer for it to be back dated, or you can wait to see if the amount is correct when they backdate you.
