Severe diverticulitis, or diverticulosis?

Hello all...CT showed I have severe diverticulitis (no symptoms)... Sorry, I can't get the difference straight. Anyway, my question to you all is did your symptoms Chang after first being diagnosed with this affliction, or did you go straight into terrible pain and off to the ER? How long before being diagnosed with no symptoms to surgery??

I have severe sigmoid diverticulitis.  I had symptoms first.  My GP figured it out right away, and prescribed antibiotics.  I was then sent for a CT scan, which confirmed my GP was correct.  That was over a year ago.

I am on a very restricted diet, which has kept it in check (so far).

I had another CT scan recently, which showed it had worsened, but still no talk of surgery.

Other than the pain when I push myself too much physically, or eat the wrong food, it's been manageable.
